Dick Eiden on Letters Night
I’m writing to let you know that Saturday evening, January 30, will be the 13th annual Letters to the Editor Awards Night in Vista. This event has become bigger and better over the years, and is now a big social event for liberals and progressives in North San Diego County. 200 people attended last year.
The social hour (6-7pm) features meeting and talking to North County activists, letters to the editor writers, and other liberals and progressives, as well as great food catered by Oceanside’s famed Hill Street Cafe. The evening is a time for us to celebrate ourselves and our voice in the “cacophony of democracy”.
The program itself (7-9pm) consists of the best and worst of more about 6,000 letters printed in the North County Times in 2009. The North County Times has a unique policy of printing (almost) every letter they get without editing, which results in a wide variety of letters, subjects, styles, points of view. Some of it will amaze you. Democracy run amuck! The script is prepared entirely from printed letters by our experienced Letters Committee, directed by Palomar College Theater Professor Michael Mufson, and presented by six voice actors. There will also be musical entertainment by Jim and Marie Hayes.
If you would be so kind, help us spread the word to people who might be interested. Admission (including food) is $20. We need to know how many are coming, so we don’t give the exact location until you RSVP to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 760-758-2410. Consider bringing (liberal) friends or family. I hope to hear from you soon!
Yours, Dick Eiden
