DICK EIDEN challenges Issa in 49th
"Our progressive friend in North County"
I'm running for Congress in California’s newly revamped 49th Congressional District. This territory — which is now Darrell Issa's home turf — includes the San Diego County cities of Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Vista, and Oceanside, as well as Camp Pendleton, and the Orange County cities of San Clemente, Dana Point, and San Juan Capistrano.
It's about time!!
I'm running for Congress because of the upsurge of people who have lost faith in the corrupt, two-party system that seems to work well for the top 1%. But not so much for the bottom 99%. This system offers only more of the same, politics as usual, crisis after crisis, war after war. I am qualified, retired, and have time to understand and to speak for those people as a candidate and a Congressman (see Biography).
This is a time of great crisis, upheaval, resistance—a "teachable moment" --and time of great opportunity, and a responsibility/challenge to step forward in some way and try to make a difference. It's a time to start thinking outside the box, beyond the usual answers and solutions. How did we get into this mess? Who got us into this mess? How do we get out?
The two parties will once again just point the finger at each other, discuss issues they think will help them politically, and avoid issues that might hurt them. Neither party will tell us the whole truth or give us input on the most important issues. They’ll make a big deal about unimportant, smoke-screen issues. Neither party will lead our country in the difficult but important discussions we should be having.
The media will continue to focus on polls, personalities and gossip, not issues, and they will generally pander to their audience and kow-tow to the powers that be. We must educate ourselves, think for ourselves, seek alternative sources of new and analysis, try new parties, new ways of doing things, new ways of thinking. One definition of crazy is doing things the same and expecting a different result.
We need candidates who are truly independent of the two-party paradigm—the name-calling, the drama, the gridlock—to give electoral expression to the outrage being felt by the 99%, left and right. Republican Congressman Darrell Issa is the epitome of the Republican establishment. One of the richest people in Congress, he not only represents the top 1%, HE IS the top 1%. First elected in 2000, he fully supported the disastrous Bush agenda of tax cuts for the rich and tragic, counterproductive wars.
Yes! I would like to Support Dick Eiden's campaign.
