Bergdahl went AWOL? Geo. Bush is a DESERTER
Publication Date: 06/07/2014
By Joe Howard Crews - OP-ED -- The story of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl raises a much HOTTER story -- the Desertion of George W. Bush during the Vietnam War. -- It's now well established that George W. Bush never showed up for National Guard duty for a period of approximately one year, possibly more, in 1972-1973. Despite all the talk about "honor and dignity," Bush seems to have a problem showing up for duty -- for over a year. If Bush deserted while serving in Alabama, and even elected President of the United States, then Sgt. Bo Bergdahl, who served in fierce combat in Afghanistan, should be given the Presidential Medal of honor.

A Los Angeles billionaire is about to present to the world a new technology which may be more important even than Obamacare. Journalists no longer safe in Britain
Publication Date: 08/24/2013
Story of the chilling clash of the GCHQ (British "intelligence" spy agency) with the GUARDIAN newspaper over the Guardian's computer files and information from the Snowden documents: "... one of the more bizarre moments in the Guardian's long history occurred – with two GCHQ security experts overseeing the destruction of hard drives in the Guardian's basement just to make sure there was nothing in the mangled bits of metal which could possibly be of any interest to passing Chinese agents. 'We can call off the black helicopters,' joked one as we swept up the remains of a MacBook Pro." -- it may not be long before it will be impossible for journalists to have confidential sources.

The prophet who foresaw the dreaded NSA abyss

There was a prescient senator who spoke these words in 1975: "That capability at any time could be turned around on the American people and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything, telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn't matter. -- There would be no place to hide if this government ever became a tyranny, if a dictator ever took charge in this country, the technological capacity that the intelligence community has given the government could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back, because the most careful effort to combine together in resistance to the government, no matter how privately it was done, it is within the reach of the government to know."

Obama's steady and relentless assault against civil liberties --The White House has asked the US Second Circuit Court of Appeals to place an emergency stay on a ruling made last week by a federal judge so that the president's power to indefinitely detain Americans without charge is reaffirmed immediately. -- On Wednesday, September 12, US District Court Judge Katherine Forrest made permanent a temporary injunction she issued in May that bars the federal government from abiding by the indefinite detention provision in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, or NDAA. Judge Forrest ruled that a clause that gives the government the power to arrest US citizens suspected of maintaining alliances with terrorists and hold them without due process violated the Constitution and that the White House would be stripped of that ability immediately.

"I spent many years in countries where the military had the power to arrest and detain citizens without charge. I have been in some of these jails. I have friends and colleagues who have 'disappeared' into military gulags. I know the consequences of granting sweeping and unrestricted policing power to the armed forces of any nation. "Thanks to the horrific 2005 bankruptcy bill, one of the most nakedly venal modern examples of Congress serving the interests of the rentiers and creditors over the vast majority, debtors cannot discharge student loans through bankruptcy." wrote Alex Pareene in Salon (see article elsewhere in the ProgressivePost). "The government is shielded from the risk, and creditors are licensed to collect by almost any means they deem necessary, giving no one in charge any real incentive (beyond basic human decency) to fix the situation." This is the demand of the ProgressivePost: The Federal Reserve pay off all student loans for the first $25,000 debt and 50% forgiveness on all debt over that. Paul Krugman - "We are now, I fear, in the early stages of a third depression. It will probably look more like the Long Depression than the much more severe Great Depression. .. And this third depression will be primarily a failure of policy. Around the world — most recently at last weekend’s deeply discouraging G-20 meeting — governments are obsessing about inflation when the real threat is deflation, preaching the need for belt-tightening when the real problem is inadequate spending."

INSIGHTS - Editorial - “We can only do so much,” whines House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). No, Nancy. The problem is that you have done so little. Next to nothing really. Of the vaunted list of progressive measures you came into office as Speaker promising to push, only one—the minimum wage bill—passed, and you managed that only by making it “blood money”—that is, by tying it to the Iraq War funding bill so that the president wouldn’t veto it. That was a sick deal.

Nazi Germany exterminated six million Jews, 8.6 % of its population. When Nazis forces were finally crushed, the Allies moved in on the extermination camps, and were horrified. They opened up the camps for reporters and the world to see. Dachau, Buchenwald, Sobibor, Treblinka and Asuschwitz-Birkenau are names that will live in greater infamy than Abu Ghraib in the history of atrocity.
