The pens which write against disarmament are made with the same steel from which guns are made.
- Aristide Briand, French statesman, Nobel Peace Prize, 1926

- Aldous Huxley

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
- Helen Keller

If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.

The question is not, do we go to church; the question is, have we been converted. The crux of Christianity is not whether or not we give donations to popular charities but whether or not we are really committed to the poor.
- Joan Chittester, OSB

A bad peace is even worse than war.
- Tactitus

And then to each other.
- Richard Goode

No, the Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.
- Micah 6:8

Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace.
- Martin Luther (1483-1546)

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos.
- Martin Luther King Jr.

Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess.
- Oscar Wilde

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.

But the wisdom from above is pure, first of all; it is also peaceful, gentle and friendly; it is full of compassion and produces a harvest of good deals,; it is free from prejudice and hypocrisy.
- James 3:17

The maxim that people should not have a right till they are ready to exercise it properly, is worthy of the fool in the old story who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim.
- Macaulay

Instead of tug o' war, let's play hug o' war.
- Shel Silverstein

War is an invention of the human mind. The human mind can invent peace with justice.
- Norman Cousins

A large group of us were crowded into the Gestapo hall, and at that moment the circumstances of all our lives were the same. All of us occupied the same space, the men behind the desk no less than those about to be questioned. What distinguished each of us was only our inner attitude.
- Etty Hillesum (concentration camp victim)

You know, if people are not pacifists, it's not their fault. It's because society puts them in that spot. You've got to change it. You don't just change a man - you've got to change his environment as you do it.
- Cesar Chavez

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned.
- Buddha

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction.
- Albert Einstein

The belief that we some day shall be able to prevent war is to me one with the belief in the possibility of making humanity really human.
- Ellen Key, 1916

Murder and capital punishment are not opposites that cancel one another, but similars that breed their kind. It is the deed that teaches not the name we give it.
- George Bernard Shaw

Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them whenever they require it... If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.
- St. Francis of Assisi

To see the earth as it truly is, small and blue in that eternal silence where it floats, is to see riders on the earth together, brothers on that bright loveliness in the eternal cold - brothers who know now they are truly brothers.
- Archibald Mc Leish

Nonviolence which is a quality of the heart, cannot come by an appeal to the brain.
- Mahatma Gandhi

I resolve to speak ill of no man whatever, not even in a matter of truth; but rather by some means excuse the faults I hear charged upon others, and upon proper occasions speak all the good I know of everybody.

- Frederick Moore Vinson, Speech at Arlington National Cemetery (Memorial Day, 1945)

Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is--whether its victim is human or animal--we cannot expect things to be much better in this world... We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity.
- Rachel Carson

In order to find the edge, you must risk going over the edge.
- Dennis Dugan

Angry heart -- you have no chance against my prayers.

What all men fear, I too must fear - how barren and pointless a thought!
- Tao Te Ching

If peace . . . only had the music and pageantry of war, there'd be no wars.
- Sophie Kerr

To resort to power one need not be violent, and to speak to conscience one need not be meek. The most effective action both resorts to power and engages conscience. Nonviolent actions does not have to get others to be nice. It can in effect force them to consult their consciences. Nor does it have to petition those in power to do something about a situation. It can face the authorities with a new fact and say: Accept this new situation which we have created.
- Barbara Deming

The point of nonviolence is to build a floor, a strong new floor, beneath which we can no longer sink. A platform which stands a few feet above napalm, torture, exploitation, poison gas, A and H bombs, the works. Give man a decent place to stand.
- Joan Baez

Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely an absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people.
- Jawaharlal Nehru

SD Unified School acquires its own combat Tank
It’s actually a mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle (MRAP -as seen in Ferguson, MO). The U.S. military has used these vehicles in their occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq. They’re capable of withstanding improvised explosive devices and smashing through barricades. Police departments around the country use imilar vehicles for SWAT team deployments. -- The school district got the MRAP for free as part of the Department of Defense’s Excess Property Program. The program, commonly referred to as the 1033 Program, sends unneeded military equipment like weapons and body armor to local police forces for no cost.

Sotomayor: We should be alarmed by Drones
Justice Sotomayor: Americans Should be Alarmed by Spread of Drones -- Americans should be more concerned about their privacy being invaded by the spread of drones, Justice Sonia Sotomayor told an Oklahoma City audience on Thursday. -- Speaking before a group of faculty members and students at Oklahoma City University’s law school on Sept. 11, Justice Sotomayor said “frightening” changes in surveillance technology should encourage citizens to take a more active role in the privacy debate. She said she’s particularly troubled by the potential for commercial and government drones to compromise personal privacy. (From Wall St. Journal)

Davis, CA junks its "Tank" (MRAP)
Davis, CA Tells Its Police Chief To Get Rid Of His Tank --Painted in brown camouflage, it has a revolving turret, the kind of vehicle you'd expect to see patrolling the streets of Mosul. But it's far, far from Mosul. Instead, the $700,000.00 armored combat vehicle sits menacingly in a parking lot in the college town of Davis California, ready to be called into service on a moment's notice should any terrorists appear But the City Council directed Chief Landy last month to get rid of it in the face of an uproar that had swept through this community, with many invoking the use of similar equipment by the police against protesters in Ferguson, Mo., after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.

Implanted tracking computer chips in U.S. Troops?
New Pentagon plan calls for implanted computer chips to help U.S. troops "heal" (??) -- Program officials say the goal is to develop a technology that could help people heal more quickly through the use of biosensors and electromagnetic devices that control human organs. (From WASHINGTON POST) [Editor: The technology is possible, but the purpose is likely more nefariously "Big Brother" tracking and control.]

America beating the War Drums again

DAN RATHER: "My first question to anyone who is on television saying, we have to get tough, we need to put boots on the ground and we need to go to war in one of these places is, I will hear you out if you tell me you are prepared to send your son, your daughter, your grandson, your granddaughter to that war of which you are beating the drums. If you aren’t, I have no patience with you, and don’t even talk to me."

Rand Paul vs. Hillary on ISIS - Who is reasonable?

Rand Paul a “Voice of Reason” on ISIS in Comparison to Hillary Clinton, says Cenk Uygur -- Paul was a “voice of reason” on the issue of ISIS, Uygur said that the Kentucky Senator’s opposition to bombing Syria, arming so-called moderate rebels and intervening in the region stood in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton “beating the war drums” in line with establishment Republicans.

Seniors forced into poverty by Student Loan Debt
Seniors Forced Into Poverty As Education Department Demands Payment -- "One out of every eight student loans held by this group is in default," said Charles Jeszeck, director of education, workforce, and income security issues at the GAO. But the oppression is affecting thousands of seniors also. At least 22,000 Americans aged 65 and older had a part of their Social Security benefits garnished last year to the point that their monthly benefits were below federal poverty thresholds, according to the Government Accountability Office. Tony Blair urges air strikes against Scotland
Satire: Tony Blair Urges the “Ukraine Solution”: Air Strikes Against Scotland in Event of ‘Yes’ Vote -- Interviewed in Kiev, Mr Blair said on Saturday that he hoped Scots would vote against independence, but warned that if Scotland voted to break up the United Kingdom then military intervention would be inevitable: “Obviously I hope that Scotland votes to stay part of the United Kingdom. But Scotland should prepare itself for a full-scale invasion by ground forces if it doesn’t.”

Horrifying Miscarriage of Justice in No. Carolina
The convictions of two mentally disabled half-brothers were vacated and the two men were ordered released by Superior Court Judge Douglas Sasser in North Carolina on Tuesday. They were freed from prison Wednesday. Henry Lee McCollum, 50, had been on death row for 30 years, longer than anyone else in North Carolina history. He and Leon Brown, 46, who was serving a life sentence, were convicted for the 1983 rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. DNA evidence implicated another man, a known sex offender the police had not investigated, despite the fact that he lived next to the crime scene.

Mass Beheadings -- Isis? NO. Saudi Arabia.
Record Beheadings And The Mass Arrest Of Christians – ISIS? Or Saudi Arabia! In the past month, a group of radical Islamic extremists based in the Middle East beheaded at least 23 people and enforced a ban on Christianity by arresting a group of people for practicing the faith in a private home. -- No, I’m not talking about ISIS. The real culprit is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, one of the America's closest global allies.

Bill Maher shredded by Glenn Greenwald

Bill Maher shredded by Glenn Greenwald on US intervention in Muslim countries -- Glenn Greenwald came through as he usually does, not letting Bill Maher get away with his silly, blinkered boogeyman narrative that it’s all PC liberalism to not say Islam is an inherently and uniquely violent religion causing the most horror and violence in the world. Greenwald gave the example of the West Bank and the extremist Jewish settlers who justify land theft and persecution of Palestinians based on a perceived divine mandate. Greenwald also pointed towards the Crusade against Iraq that George W. Bush stated as having been the directive of God.

Glenn Greenwald DESTROYS David Gregory

Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald took Meet The Press host David Gregory head on in an interview Sunday morning, after Gregory asked if Greenwald would be criminally culpable for "aiding and abetting" NSA leaker Edward Snowden.

Intelligence chief in bald-faced lie to Congress

HE LIED to the nation! -- James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) LIED to congress. Let me repeat that for you - he didn't "mislead" -- he LIED! Why he isn't under the jail? Congress impeached Pres. Bill Clinton for equivocating about a sexual dalliance, but Congress sucked up to James Clapper who outright lied about a grave criminal and unconstitutional policy.

The brilliant Glenn Greenwald OWNS Toobin Again!

Observe Toobin's face. He can't even hide that he's an establishment shill. The way he rolls his eyes and smirks bespeaks his elitist mindset. He's not half the lawyer Greenwald. Every time Toobin and Greenwald go at it, Toobin leaves with a black eye. Toobin is the punching bag/bullet sponge of choice for the establishment media every time they need someone to absorb Greenwald's abuse.
