Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love. God grant me the courage to change the things I can, the patience to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference. Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. In April, we cannot see sunflowers in France, so we might say the sunflowers do not exist. But the local farmers have already planted thousands of seeds, and when they look at the bare hills, they may be able to see the sunflowers already. The sunflowers are there. They lack only the conditions of sun, heat, rain and July. Just because we cannot see them does not mean that they do not exist. While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Freedom is actually a bigger game than power. Power is about what you can control. Freedom is about what you can unleash. The master's tools will never destroy the master's house. If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos. We cannot have peace if we are only concerned with peace. War is not an accident. It is the logical outcome of a certain way of life. If we want to attack war, we have to attack that way of life. The soul of our country needs to be awakened . . .When leaders act contrary to conscience, we must act contrary to leaders. The law of violence is not a law, but a simple fact which can only be a law when it does not meet with protest and opposition. It is like the cold, darkness and weight, which people had to put up with until recently when warmth, illumination and leverage were discovered.... I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. It is easier to lead men to combat, stirring up their passion, than to restrain them and direct them toward the patient labors of peace. Peace is an environment where conflicts are resolved without violence, where people are free, not exploited, living so they can grow to their full potential. The only thing that's been a worse flop than the organization of nonviolence has been the organization of violence. It is clear that the way to heal society of its violence . . . and lack of love is to replace the pyramid of domination with the circle of equality and respect. Murder and capital punishment are not opposites that cancel one another, but similars that breed their kind. It is the deed that teaches not the name we give it. Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men, for the nastiest of reasons, will somehow work for the benefit of us all. What is man? There is no such thing as defeat in non-violence. If you want peace, work for justice. One day we shall win freedom, but not only for ourselves. We shall so appeal to your heart and conscience that we shall win you in the process, and our victory will be a double victory. In 1989, thirteen nations comprising 1,695,000 people experienced nonviolent revolutions that succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectations . . . If we add all the countries touched by major nonviolent actions in our century (the Philippines, South Africa . . . the independence movement in India . . .) the figure reaches 3,337,400,000, a staggering 65% of humanity! All this in the teeth of the assertion, endlessly repeated, that nonviolence doesn't work in the 'real' world. Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace. There never was a war that was not inward; I must fight till I have conquered in myself what causes war. Non-violence is a very powerful weapon. Most people don't understand the power of non-violence and tend to be amazed by the whole idea. Those who have been involved in bringing about change and see the difference between violence and non-violence are firmly committed to a lifetime of non-violence, not because it is easy or because it is cowardly, but because it is an effective and very powerful way. In every child who is born, no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again: and in him, too, once more, and of each of us, our terrific responsibility toward human life; toward the utmost idea of goodness, of the horror of terror, and of God. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. We challenge the culture of violence when we ourselves act in the certainty that violence is no longer acceptable, that it's tired and outdated no matter how many cling to it in the stubborn belief that it still works and that it's still valid. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. We are, each of us angels with only one wing; and we can only fly by embracing one another. The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins Jaw-jaw is better than war-war. A time will come when a politician who has willfully made war and promoted international dissension will be as sure of the dock and much surer of the noose than a private homicide. The fire caused extensive damage in Harmony Grove: 25 homes were lost at the Harmony Grove Spiritualist Association including the church. On the Sky Mountain land, Lali Mitchell's house was burnt down, the little house that Alden and Ann live in narrowly escaped as the fire came within 15 feet and the barn was also very narrowly missed by the tornadoes of fire that whipped across the area in a matter of minutes. The gardens took a heavy hit with many trees and plants destroyed, the greenhouse shattered. An activist in Chile has burnt documents representing $500 million (£300 million) worth of student debt during a protest at Universidad del Mar. Francisco Tapia, who is also known as “Papas Fritas”, claimed that he had “freed” the students by setting fire to the debt papers or “pagarés”. Mr Tapia has justified his actions in a video he posted on YouTube on Monday 12 May, which has since gone viral and garnered over 55,000 views. In this five-minute video the artist and activist passionately says: "You don't have to pay another peso [of your student loan debt]. We have to lose our fear, our fear of being thought of as criminals because we’re poor. I am just like you, living a s**tty life, and I live it day by day — this is my act of love for you." You must not ever forget this incident at U.C. Davis: Police pepper spraying and arresting students at UC Davis. The militarization of our local police, the War on our Youth, the fascist oppression of peaceful assembly, protest and free speech in America. During peacefully Occupy Movement,(Nov. 2011) police came in to tear down tents and proceeded to arrest students who stood in their way. Once students peacefully demanded the release of the arrested, a police officer unnecessarily pepper sprays the students to open a path for the rest of the officers. -- The officer who sprayed the students was UC Davis Police Lt. John Pike. -- Notice all the other police just standing around watching, as if nothing abnormal or outrageous is happening.
