This 'N That

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
- Albert Einstein

Love the fellow of the resurrection, scooping up the dust and chanting "Live!"
- Emily Dickinson

When the rich make war, it's the poor that die.
- Jean-Paul Sartre

He that cannot forgive others, breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has a need to be forgiven.
- Lord Herbert

Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, shall harness for God the energies of love. Then for the second time in the history of the world, we will have discovered fire.
- Teilhard de Chardin

All works of love are works of peace.
- Mother Teresa

Productive work, love and thought are possible only if a person can be, when necessary, quiet and alone. To be able to listen to oneself is the necessary condition for relating oneself to others.
- Erich Fromm

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
- Helen Keller

Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
- Mohandas Gandhi

We do not inherit the earth from our fathers. We borrow it from our children.
- David Bower

When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.
- John Wesley

Man's mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.
- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
- Albert Einstein

Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.
- Andre Gide

The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.
- Martin Luther King

Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all.
- George Washington

If you obey all the rules you will miss the fun.
- Katherine Hepburn

Life only demands from you the strength you possess. Only one feat is possible- not to have to run away.

- Charles Bukowsky

If you want peace, work for justice.
- Pope Paul VI

The real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth.
- Thich Nhat Hanh

We must have research for peace ... It would embrace the outstanding problems of morality. The time has come for man's intellect, his scientific method, to win over the immoral brutality and irrationality of war and militarism ... Now we are forced to eliminate from the world forever this vestige of prehistoric barbarism, this curse to the human race.
- Linus Pauling

What good is a house, if you haven't got a decent planet to put it on?
- Henry David Thoreau

Do all the good you can,
- By all the means you can,

Everything, everything in war is barbaric . . . But the worst barbarity of war is that it forces men collectively to commit acts against which individually they would revolt with their whole being.
- Ellen Key, 1916

If it's natural to kill, how come men have to go into training to learn how?
- Joan Baez

When asked what he would do if he knew the world would end tomorrow, Martin Luther said, "I would plant a tree."
- Martin Luther

I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask: "Mother, what was war?"
- Eve Merriam

The problems of this world are so gigantic that some are paralysed by their own uncertainty. Courage and wisdom are needed to reach out above this sense of helplessness. Desire for vengeance against deeds of hatred offers no solution. An eye for an eye makes the world blind. If we wish to choose the other path, we will have to search for ways to break the spiral of animosity. To fight evil one must also recognize one's own responsibility. The values for which we stand must be expressed in the way we think of, and how we deal with, our fellow humans.
- - From the Christmas Message 2001 of HM Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands

And then to each other.
- Richard Goode

War is, at first, the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off.
- Karl Kraus (1874-1936)

When death, the great reconciler, has come, it is never our tenderness that we repent of, but our severity.
- George Eliot

Dust turned to hope.
- Elie Weisel

Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence.
- Dorothy Thompson

Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds.
- George Santayana

Let us plant dates even though those who plant them will never eat them. We must live by the love of what we will never see. This is the secret discipline. It is a refusal to let the creative act be dissolved away in immediate sense experience, and a stubborn commitment to the future of our grandchildren. Such disciplined love is what has given prophets, revolutionaries, and saints the courage to die for the future they envisaged. They make their own bodies the seed of their highest hope.
- Ruben Alves, Tomorrow’s Child

The world will not be inherited by the strongest, it will be inherited by those most able to change
- Charles Darwin

Warmaking doesn't stop warmaking. If it did, our problems would have stopped millennia ago.
- Colman McCarthy

Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man.
- Stewart Udall

If peace . . . only had the music and pageantry of war, there'd be no wars.
- Sophie Kerr

Feinstein lobs political grenade at CIA

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) delivered a devastating broadside against the CIA Tuesday, alleging that the agency was trying to intimidate Congress and may have broken the law in spying on Senate staffers. -- Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was responding to CIA charges that Senate staffers had hacked CIA computers to learn that the spy agency was in fact spying on the people charged with overseeing its activities. Those revelations surfaced last week, prompting the countercharge against the CIA, and a CIA complaint to the Justice Department. -- Feinstein, who is often a strong defender of the intelligence community, hammered the agency in a morning Senate floor speech, saying the CIA knew of every step the Intelligence Committee staffers took, and that the CIA provided all the documents that the agency later questioned. -- To allege that staffers may have broken the law was dishonest, she said, and smacked of an attempt to bully civilians responsible for checking agency abuses.

Scott Brown gets awkward lesson in Obamacare
News
Scott Brown is as hapless a Senate candidate in New Hampshire as he was in Massachusetts. Even in a crowd of friendly fellow Republicans, he can't seem to keep his foot out of his mouth, particularly when it comes to Obamacare. -- During a campaign event, a fellow Republican, hosting the event, corrected Brown publicly, reciting his own experience with Obamacare as a godsend.

Homeless man shot to death by police for camping

The Albuquerque Police Department in the state of New Mexico is coming under fire following the release of video footage taken from the helmet-mounted camera of an officer who shot and killed a man earlier this month for camping. -- James Boyd, a 38-year-old homeless man thought to be schizophrenic, was shot by the Albuquerque PD on Sunday, March 16 after he became engaged in an hours-long standoff with officers who caught him illegally camping in the Sandi foothills. He was pronounced dead the next day. Late last week, the APD released video footage taken from the helmetcam of an officer on the scene of the crime that shows a cop opening fire on Boyd while his back was turned to the police. The clip has since been widely circulated online and caused the local police force to become the target of widespread condemnation. (March 24, 2014)

Intelligence chief in bald-faced lie to Congress

HE LIED to the nation! -- James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) LIED to congress. Let me repeat that for you - he didn't "mislead" -- he LIED! Why he isn't under the jail? Congress impeached Pres. Bill Clinton for equivocating about a sexual dalliance, but Congress sucked up to James Clapper who outright lied about a grave criminal and unconstitutional policy.

When God made man ruler of the Earth

Things went terribly wrong for God when he made man ruler of the Earth.

Hillary's deeply flawed, calloused character

The deeply flawed character of Hillary Clinton -- cold, calculating, indifferent -- is not what we need in the White House. While she gave a speech at Geo. Washington University, Vet for Peace Ray McGovern stood silently and turned his back on Hillary. For this McGovern, age 70, was violently dragged from the auditorium, bruised and beaten. During all this, Hillary did not break her stride on iota, and very coldly ignored the brutal silencing of a peaceful voice of protest. McGovern is a veteran CIA officer and staunch opponent of war and government mega surveillance of law abiding citizens.

K-XL More Dangerous Than an Iranian Atomic Bomb
News
By Juan Cole to Pres. Obama: -- "But while you seem to put a great deal of emphasis on Iran's nuclear enrichment program and the danger it might be weaponized, and while you say you want nuclear disarmament in general, you seem to take a longer view on a much, much more extreme threat to the earth than a few thousand atomic bombs. ...The greater threat than atomic bombs is carbon emissions and the likelihood that tar sands extraction of petroleum will greatly increase them. This coming on line of massive new amounts of extremely dirty tar sands petroleum would be much abetted by the Keystone XL pipeline. "
