When the rich make war, it's the poor that die. He that cannot forgive others, breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has a need to be forgiven. Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, shall harness for God the energies of love. Then for the second time in the history of the world, we will have discovered fire. All works of love are works of peace. Productive work, love and thought are possible only if a person can be, when necessary, quiet and alone. To be able to listen to oneself is the necessary condition for relating oneself to others. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away. We do not inherit the earth from our fathers. We borrow it from our children. When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart. Man's mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it. The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all. If you obey all the rules you will miss the fun. Life only demands from you the strength you possess. Only one feat is possible- not to have to run away. And all good things are yours. Those things of real worth in life are worth going to any length in love and respect to safeguard. Only the poor knew the meaning of life; the rich and the safe had to guess. If you want peace, work for justice. The real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. We must have research for peace ... It would embrace the outstanding problems of morality. The time has come for man's intellect, his scientific method, to win over the immoral brutality and irrationality of war and militarism ... Now we are forced to eliminate from the world forever this vestige of prehistoric barbarism, this curse to the human race. What good is a house, if you haven't got a decent planet to put it on? Do all the good you can, Everything, everything in war is barbaric . . . But the worst barbarity of war is that it forces men collectively to commit acts against which individually they would revolt with their whole being. If it's natural to kill, how come men have to go into training to learn how? When asked what he would do if he knew the world would end tomorrow, Martin Luther said, "I would plant a tree." I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask: "Mother, what was war?" The problems of this world are so gigantic that some are paralysed by their own uncertainty. Courage and wisdom are needed to reach out above this sense of helplessness. Desire for vengeance against deeds of hatred offers no solution. An eye for an eye makes the world blind. If we wish to choose the other path, we will have to search for ways to break the spiral of animosity. To fight evil one must also recognize one's own responsibility. The values for which we stand must be expressed in the way we think of, and how we deal with, our fellow humans. And then to each other. War is, at first, the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off. When death, the great reconciler, has come, it is never our tenderness that we repent of, but our severity. Dust turned to hope. Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence. Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds. Let us plant dates even though those who plant them will never eat them. We must live by the love of what we will never see. This is the secret discipline. It is a refusal to let the creative act be dissolved away in immediate sense experience, and a stubborn commitment to the future of our grandchildren. Such disciplined love is what has given prophets, revolutionaries, and saints the courage to die for the future they envisaged. They make their own bodies the seed of their highest hope. The world will not be inherited by the strongest, it will be inherited by those most able to change Warmaking doesn't stop warmaking. If it did, our problems would have stopped millennia ago. Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man. WASHINGTON -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) delivered a devastating broadside against the CIA Tuesday, alleging that the agency was trying to intimidate Congress and may have broken the law in spying on Senate staffers. -- Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was responding to CIA charges that Senate staffers had hacked CIA computers to learn that the spy agency was in fact spying on the people charged with overseeing its activities. Those revelations surfaced last week, prompting the countercharge against the CIA, and a CIA complaint to the Justice Department. -- Feinstein, who is often a strong defender of the intelligence community, hammered the agency in a morning Senate floor speech, saying the CIA knew of every step the Intelligence Committee staffers took, and that the CIA provided all the documents that the agency later questioned. -- To allege that staffers may have broken the law was dishonest, she said, and smacked of an attempt to bully civilians responsible for checking agency abuses. The Albuquerque Police Department in the state of New Mexico is coming under fire following the release of video footage taken from the helmet-mounted camera of an officer who shot and killed a man earlier this month for camping. -- James Boyd, a 38-year-old homeless man thought to be schizophrenic, was shot by the Albuquerque PD on Sunday, March 16 after he became engaged in an hours-long standoff with officers who caught him illegally camping in the Sandi foothills. He was pronounced dead the next day. Late last week, the APD released video footage taken from the helmetcam of an officer on the scene of the crime that shows a cop opening fire on Boyd while his back was turned to the police. The clip has since been widely circulated online and caused the local police force to become the target of widespread condemnation. Washington University, Vet for Peace Ray McGovern stood silently and turned his back on Hillary. For this McGovern, age 70, was violently dragged from the auditorium, bruised and beaten. During all this, Hillary did not break her stride on iota, and very coldly ignored the brutal silencing of a peaceful voice of protest.
