This 'N That

The belief that we some day shall be able to prevent war is to me one with the belief in the possibility of making humanity really human.
- Ellen Key, 1916

If we could raise one generation with unconditional love, there would be no Hitlers. We need to teach the next generation of children from Day One that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can make our choices built from love or from fear..
- Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Since we are to be conformed to the image of Christ, how can we then fight our enemies with the sword? ... Spears and swords of iron we leave to those who, alas, consider human blood and swine's blood of well-nigh equal value ...
- Menno Simons, 1539 A.D

To resort to power one need not be violent, and to speak to conscience one need not be meek. The most effective action both resorts to power and engages conscience. Nonviolent actions does not have to get others to be nice. It can in effect force them to consult their consciences. Nor does it have to petition those in power to do something about a situation. It can face the authorities with a new fact and say: Accept this new situation which we have created.
- Barbara Deming

The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants and to seek peace like intellectual pygmies
- Basil O'Connor

A man may build himself a throne of bayonets, but he cannot sit on it.
- William Ralph Inge

Much violence is based on the illusion that life is a property to be defended and not to be shared.
- Henri Nouwen

People have power when other people think they have power.
- Wyche Fowler

- Doug Horton

- Emma Goldman

Men are so accustomed to maintaining external order by violence that they cannot conceive of life being possible without violence.
- Leo Tolstoy

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root."
- Henry David Thoreau, Walden

We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing that we know about living.
- General Omar Bradley

We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace.
- Gladstone

We must be the change we wish to see.
- Mahatma Gandhi

Alan John Percivale Taylor
- Unknown

Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all.
- George Washington

Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds.
- George Santayana

The pioneers of a warless world are the young men (and women) who refuse military service.
- Albert Einstein

If peace . . . only had the music and pageantry of war, there'd be no wars.
- Sophie Kerr

In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.
- Orson Welles

That's all nonviolence is - organized love.
- Joan Baez

What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world.
- Robert E. Lee, in a letter to his wife, 1864

It is clear that the way to heal society of its violence . . . and lack of love is to replace the pyramid of domination with the circle of equality and respect.
- Manitonquat

The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions.
- Robert Lynd (1879-1949), Anglo-Irish essayist, journalist

Freedom is actually a bigger game than power. Power is about what you can control. Freedom is about what you can unleash.
- Harriet Rubin

Those who are ready to sacrifice freedom for security ultimately will lose both.
- Abraham Lincoln

Peace is an environment where conflicts are resolved without violence, where people are free, not exploited, living so they can grow to their full potential.
- Gerard Vanderhaar

Mounting an expedition to actualize a Compassionate Commonwealth of all peoples...is the great spiritual challenge of our time.
- Sam Keen

Hitler and Mussolini were only the primary spokesmen for the attitude of domination and craving for power that are in the heart of almost everyone. Until the source is cleared, there will always be confusion and hate, wars and class antagonisms.
- J. Krishnamurti

- Matthew 5:3

Five enemies of peace inhabit with us--avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride; if these were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace.
- Petrarch

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.
- Ken Keyes, Jr., quoted in Catholic Digest, June 2000

We must have research for peace ... It would embrace the outstanding problems of morality. The time has come for man's intellect, his scientific method, to win over the immoral brutality and irrationality of war and militarism ... Now we are forced to eliminate from the world forever this vestige of prehistoric barbarism, this curse to the human race.
- Linus Pauling

Bless your persecutors; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Have the same attitude toward all. Put away ambitious thoughts and associate with those who are lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never repay injury with injury. See that your conduct is honorable in the eyes of all. If possible, live peacefully with everyone. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; leave that to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay," says the Lord. But "If your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals upon their heads." Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.
- Romans 12:14-21

Very few people chose war. They chose selfishness and the result was war. Each of us, individually and nationally, must choose: total love or total war.
- Dave Dellinger

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: Indeed it's the only thing that ever has.
- Margaret Mead

Respectful dialogue, in the interest of searching for more complete truth, is considerably more productive than arguing for the purity of position.
- Gerard Vanderhaar

Articles & News:

Russia has vital interest in Crimea. US does not.
The fatal flaw in U.S. foreign policy is found in our inability to see that our right to interfere in internal affairs of other nations is essentially a "Do as I tell you ... not as I do". If Russia tried to do to us, what we have done to them, we would have nuked her long ago. Russia has been exceedingly accommodating and prudent by comparison. But in an ignorant blunder, the U.S. crossed a clear Russian "red line" in Ukraine. Op-Ed from The New York Times by Howard Friel.

Obama Admin one of most secretive ever
Just one example: Secret legal opinions have often been drafted to authorize illegal activity, such as torture, warrantless wiretapping and the killing of American citizens with drones. The Obama administration has succeeded in keeping legal opinions secret -- essentially expanding a growing body of secret law (that was much growing even more vast before Snowden blew the whistle on top secret surveillance by the NSA). Feinstein lobs political grenade at CIA

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) delivered a devastating broadside against the CIA Tuesday, alleging that the agency was trying to intimidate Congress and may have broken the law in spying on Senate staffers. -- Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, was responding to CIA charges that Senate staffers had hacked CIA computers to learn that the spy agency was in fact spying on the people charged with overseeing its activities. Those revelations surfaced last week, prompting the countercharge against the CIA, and a CIA complaint to the Justice Department. -- Feinstein, who is often a strong defender of the intelligence community, hammered the agency in a morning Senate floor speech, saying the CIA knew of every step the Intelligence Committee staffers took, and that the CIA provided all the documents that the agency later questioned. -- To allege that staffers may have broken the law was dishonest, she said, and smacked of an attempt to bully civilians responsible for checking agency abuses.

44 yrs later, Linda Perhacs releases her 2nd album

Singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs recorded her first song in 1970, and went silent for the next 44 years. She released her debut album, Parallelograms, in 1970; her second, The Soul of All Natural Things, is out this week. Unknown to Linda, her song created a cult following, but she continued writing songs in private in between. --- (From National Public Radio) NPR Article

CNBC Tried to suppress this video of Eliz Warren

Elizabeth Warren went on CNBC and was so knowledgeable that her interview went viral. She has one of the most impressive resumes in financial politics. She's a wonk. She knows her facts. And her hosts aren't used to having people like her challenging them. -- After we helped make it go viral, CNBC filed a copyright complaint against her. (I've listed other senators who haven't been accused of piracy for the same practice below the video.) [SOURCE: upworthy.com

Homeowners want banksters jailed for fraud
"I really believe [the banks are] a criminal enterprise. I truly believe this. They know what they're doing. They sit there and say they're too big to fail but they're not too big to go to jail." [From CBS Atlanta).

Obama: 'Nobody Is Listening to Your Phone Calls'. June 7, 2013. Either Mr. Obama is terribly deluded, or terribly dumb, but we all know the spooks are listening to our phone calls -- reading our email -- and manipulating the markets and stealing our money. (very short video)

Maybe God really is a black woman ...

Maybe God is a part of everything he has created -- A few days before her historic Oscar win (for the first movie she's ever been in!) It was there she delivered a speech on beauty that every little girl should hear.

Intelligence chief in bald-faced lie to Congress

HE LIED to the nation! -- James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) LIED to congress. Let me repeat that for you - he didn't "mislead" -- he LIED! Why he isn't under the jail? Congress impeached Pres. Bill Clinton for equivocating about a sexual dalliance, but Congress sucked up to James Clapper who outright lied about a grave criminal and unconstitutional policy.

Playboy dog and aloof cat

This Dog Was Busted With a Hidden Camera. What he was caught doing reminds you of what kids do when the teacher has to step out of the room. And the cat? Aloof. Is not at all impressed.

Hillary's deeply flawed, calloused character

The deeply flawed character of Hillary Clinton -- cold, calculating, indifferent -- is not what we need in the White House. While she gave a speech at Geo. Washington University, Vet for Peace Ray McGovern stood silently and turned his back on Hillary. For this McGovern, age 70, was violently dragged from the auditorium, bruised and beaten. During all this, Hillary did not break her stride on iota, and very coldly ignored the brutal silencing of a peaceful voice of protest. McGovern is a veteran CIA officer and staunch opponent of war and government mega surveillance of law abiding citizens.

K-XL More Dangerous Than an Iranian Atomic Bomb
By Juan Cole to Pres. Obama: -- "But while you seem to put a great deal of emphasis on Iran's nuclear enrichment program and the danger it might be weaponized, and while you say you want nuclear disarmament in general, you seem to take a longer view on a much, much more extreme threat to the earth than a few thousand atomic bombs. ...The greater threat than atomic bombs is carbon emissions and the likelihood that tar sands extraction of petroleum will greatly increase them. This coming on line of massive new amounts of extremely dirty tar sands petroleum would be much abetted by the Keystone XL pipeline. "
