This 'N ThatThere never was a war that was not inward; I must fight till I have conquered in myself what causes war. - Marianne MooreThe only thing that's been a worse flop than the organization of nonviolence has been the organization of violence. - Joan Baez Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity. - Albert Einstein Jaw-jaw is better than war-war. - Harold MacMillan Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away. - Mohandas Gandhi The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war. - Douglas MacArthur When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart. - John Wesley What is the revolution that we need? We need to dissolve the lie that some people have a right to think of other people as their property. And we need at last to form a circle that includes us all, in which all of us are seen as equal... We do not belong to the other, but our lives are linked; we belong in a circle of others. - Barbara Deming He that cannot forgive others, breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has a need to be forgiven. - Lord Herbert The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants and to seek peace like intellectual pygmies - Basil O'Connor The Holy Prophet Mohammed came into this world and taught us: 'That man is a Muslim who never hurts anyone by word or deed, but who works for the benefit and happiness of God's creatures. Belief in God is to love one's fellow men.' - Abdul Ghaffar Khann If man does find the solution for world peace it will be the most revolutionary reversal of his record that we have ever known. - General of the Army George C. Marshall, 1945 We must have research for peace ... It would embrace the outstanding problems of morality. The time has come for man's intellect, his scientific method, to win over the immoral brutality and irrationality of war and militarism ... Now we are forced to eliminate from the world forever this vestige of prehistoric barbarism, this curse to the human race. - Linus Pauling You see things; and you say, "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?" - George Bernard Shaw He who can control his rising anger as a coachman controls his carriage at full speed, this man I call a good driver; others merely hold the reins. - Gautama Buddha There is no way to peace. Peace is the way. - A.J. Muste Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it stands than to anything on which it is poured. - Anonymous Only the poor knew the meaning of life; the rich and the safe had to guess. - Charles Bukowsky When a true genius appears in this world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. - Jonathan Swift It is penance to work, to give oneself to others, to endure the pinpricks of community living. - Dorothy Day If Columbus had an advisory committee he would probably still be at the dock. - Justice Arthur Goldberg The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. - Steve Biko Life is a whim of several billion cells to be you for a while. - Unknown The story of the human race is characterized by efforts to get along much more than by violent disputes, although it's the latter that make the history books. Violence is actually exceptional. The human race has survived because of cooperation, not aggression. - Gerard Vanderhaar The first question which the priest and the Levite asked [on the Jericho Road] was: ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But...the good Samaritan reversed the question: ‘If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?' - Martin Luther King The Bible has a very meaningful expression: The Spirit makes all things new. We are those who grow old, and we want everything done to our aged standards. The Spirit is never old; the Spirit is always young. - Oscar Romero I don't do great things. I do small things with great love. - Mother Teresa The question is not, do we go to church; the question is, have we been converted. The crux of Christianity is not whether or not we give donations to popular charities but whether or not we are really committed to the poor. - Joan Chittester, OSB Productive work, love and thought are possible only if a person can be, when necessary, quiet and alone. To be able to listen to oneself is the necessary condition for relating oneself to others. - Erich Fromm Hitler and Mussolini were only the primary spokesmen for the attitude of domination and craving for power that are in the heart of almost everyone. Until the source is cleared, there will always be confusion and hate, wars and class antagonisms. - J. Krishnamurti As long as ever you can. - John Wesley Talk less, say more, - Hate less, love more, Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man. - Stewart Udall There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. - Douglas Adams In every child who is born, no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again: and in him, too, once more, and of each of us, our terrific responsibility toward human life; toward the utmost idea of goodness, of the horror of terror, and of God. - James Agee There have been periods of history in which episodes of terrible violence occurred but for which the word violence was never used...Violence is shrouded in justifying myths that lend it moral legitimacy, and these myths for the most part kept people from recognizing the violence for what it was. The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of their act as violence; rather they though of it as an act of divinely mandated righteousness. The same can be said of most of the violence we humans have ever committed. - Gil Bailie No one is so foolish as to prefer to peace, war, in which, instead of sons burying their fathers, fathers bury their sons. - Croesus, King of Lydia, in Herodotus' The Persian Wars Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice. - Baruch Spinoza Is it progress if a cannibal uses a knife and fork? - Stanislaw Lem God looks unjust but is not. Live to serve. - Dom Helder Camara Fear less, hope more, - Whine less, breathe more, People have power when other people think they have power. - Wyche Fowler There is nothing that war has ever achieved that we could not better achieve without it. - Havelock Ellis One must care about a world one will never see. - Bertrand Russell, 20th-century British mathematician and philosopher Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. - Henry David Thoreau Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all. - George Washington Someday they'll give a war and nobody will come. - Carl Sandburg It belongs to the very substance of nonviolence never to destroy or damage another person's feeling of self worth, even an opponent's. We all need, constantly, an advance of trust and affirmation. - Bernard Haring Men are so accustomed to maintaining external order by violence that they cannot conceive of life being possible without violence. - Leo Tolstoy Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness, that must frighten us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, Courageous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You playing small does not help the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And when we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. When we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. - Nelson Mandela Smiling is very important. If we are not able to smile, then the world will not have peace. It is not by going out for a demonstration against nuclear missiles that we can bring about peace. It is with our capacity of smiling, breathing, and being peace that we can make peace. - Thich Nhat Hanh Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them. - Ralph Waldo Emerson If you obey all the rules you will miss the fun. - Katherine Hepburn The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. - Martin Luther King For it isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it. - Eleanor Roosevelt Heresy is only another word for freedom of thought. - Graham Greene, 1981 We cannot have peace if we are only concerned with peace. War is not an accident. It is the logical outcome of a certain way of life. If we want to attack war, we have to attack that way of life. - A. J. Muste A spiritual person tries less to be godly than to be deeply human. - Rev. William Sloan Coffin, Jr. The first casualty when war comes is truth. - Senator Hiram Johnson, 1917 When death, the great reconciler, has come, it is never our tenderness that we repent of, but our severity. - George Eliot I swore never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. - Elie Weisel The law, in its majestic equality, forbids both rich and poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread. - Anatole France At all the times you can, - To all the people you can, |
Articles & News: Bankruptcy for Gregory Cyn garbage dump in No. Co. News A major victory for the environment and health in North County: The bankruptcy of the corporation that has used every propaganda and lying trick it could to site a toxic garbage dump next to the longest river in San Diego County -- the river from which Oceanside gets its drinking water. News article from the SD Union Tribune:
Pam Slater wisely condemned Gregory Cyn dump Article In an editorial in 2006, SD Co. supervisor Pam Slater wisely condemned the idea of a toxic garbage dump next to the San Luis Rey River. The battle against this dangerous and potentially catastrophic plan has been waged for over 30 years, but has finally be killed last week with the bankruptcy of the irresponsible corporation that promoted the scheme. This is Slater's editorial (no longer retrievable because of the demise of the North County Times).

K-XL More Dangerous Than an Iranian Atomic Bomb News By Juan Cole to Pres. Obama: -- "But while you seem to put a great deal of emphasis on Iran's nuclear enrichment program and the danger it might be weaponized, and while you say you want nuclear disarmament in general, you seem to take a longer view on a much, much more extreme threat to the earth than a few thousand atomic bombs. ...The greater threat than atomic bombs is carbon emissions and the likelihood that tar sands extraction of petroleum will greatly increase them. This coming on line of massive new amounts of extremely dirty tar sands petroleum would be much abetted by the Keystone XL pipeline.

Duncan Hunter voted again for national default News Some politicians are so blinded by ideology they cannot learn. One such is Rep. Duncan Hunter of San Diego County who voted to let the nation default on its debt on Feb. 11. He also voted for default last year, and his party led the nation over the cliff into default and a disastrous government shutdown which cost us taxpayers $25 BILLION -- and we got nothing for it but a downgrade in our credit ratings. It was a gigantic bonfire for bucks. Such an absolute idiotic and insane waste! And Duncan Hunter voted for it again -- the only one of our five reps from San Diego County to demonstrate an inability to learn. Black prophet long ago foresaw Obama's conundrum Article The mindset of the GOP and the right-wing media as Marcus Garvey (1867-1940) alluded to is that President Obama should not have been elected president. They want to ensure that another black man is never again elected president of the United States of America. This explains the GOPs unceasing effort to bring down the president. As Garvey asserts, "the possibility of the black man making laws to govern the white man, drove them almost to madness." This madness is evident in the GOP shutting down the government, trying to repeal Obamacare, and refusing to extend the unemployment benefits.
Obama Drone Campaign 'Verges on Genocide' Article Can the American people stand by idly while the President orders his military and CIA lieutenants to murder people in cold blood? Among his other crimes it now appears that Mr. Obama may also be guilty of genocide, according to Francis Boyle, the distinguished international legal authority at the University of Illinois.
Something is out of kilter in the ocean News "... a slow motion death march is consuming life in the ocean in real time, and we humans are witnesses to this extinction event." Something is out of kilter in the ocean. The ocean is not functioning properly. It's a festering problem that will not go away. It's called acidification, and, as long as fossil fuels predominate, it will methodically, and assuredly, over time, kill the ocean. The rate of change of ocean pH (measure of acidity) is 10 times faster than 55 million years ago. That period of geologic history was directly linked to a mass extinction event as levels of CO2 mysteriously went off the charts. - by ROBERT HUNZIKER, Counter Punch.org

Barbara Bush nixes idea of Jeb Bush for president
Feisty former First Lady Barbara Bush isn't known for sugar coating her feelings -- especially when it comes to her son's future political ambitions. -- Bush said in a recent interview for C-SPAN's "First Ladies" series that it's "silly" to think that America can’t find other people who aren't named Clinton, Kennedy or Bush to run for public office. -- "I refuse to accept that this great country isn't raising other wonderful people," she said in the interview. --
She added that she hopes her son Jeb, the former governor of Florida, will take a pass on a White House bid in 2016 "because I think he’ll get all my enemies, all his brother's."
“If we can’t find more than two or three families to run for high office, that’s silly, because there are great governors and great eligible people to run,” the 88-year-old wife of former President George H.W. Bush said. "I think that the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes — there are just more families than that." Intelligence chief in bald-faced lie to Congress
HE LIED to the nation! -- James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) LIED to congress. Let me repeat that for you - he didn't "mislead" -- he LIED! Why he isn't under the jail? Congress impeached Pres. Bill Clinton for equivocating about a sexual dalliance, but Congress sucked up to James Clapper who outright lied about a grave criminal and unconstitutional policy.

Rep. Mike Rogers, the new un-American Joe McCarthy News It is now a known"... fact that the functionaries and enablers of the domestic surveillance state will tell bald-faced lies even in sworn testimony to members of Congress who are supposed to be overseeing their activities. On Sunday, one of the bigger enablers, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) the chair of the House Intelligence Committee implied on "Meet the Press" that National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden is a Russian spy. Evidence for this deadly serious assertion? None whatsoever." [From Reason.com]
10+ Reasons to Oppose the Keystone XL Pipeline News "With the clock ticking down on a final decision by the Obama administration on Keystone XL, it's time to update why NNU is opposed to a project that looks more like a pathway to pollution than a gateway to our gas pumps. -- Citing the threat to public health and how the project would hasten the climate crisis, nurses have been on the front line of protests against Keystone, a 1,700-mile pipeline that would transport 830,000 barrels of dirty tar sands oil every day from Alberta, Canada to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries, primarily for export.

Manning Video:American troops slaughter civilians
Video depicts a US Apache attack helicopter killing 12 civilians and wounding two children on the ground in Baghdad in 2007. The helicopter then fired on and killed the people trying to rescue the wounded. Finally, a US tank drove over one of the bodies, cutting the man in half. These acts constitute three separate war crimes. All with calloused video-game contempt for human life. - Manning fulfilled his legal duty to report war crimes. He complied with his legal duty to obey lawful orders but also his legal duty to disobey unlawful orders. -- The Army covered up the evidence and declared the war crime "justified". Now they say that exposing the massacre is criminal.

'Lying' James Clapper Did More Damage Than Snowden
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper's "lying" to Congress about the scope of government surveillance did more damage than fugitive contractor Edward Snowden's leaks, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Wednesday. "I find that really, that Clapper lying to Congress is probably more injurious to our intelligence capabilities than anything Snowden did because Clapper has damaged the credibility of the entire intelligence apparatus, and I'm not sure what to believe anymore when it comes to Congress," Paul said on CNN's "The Situation Room." In March, Clapper told the Senate Intelligence Committee that the NSA does not collect intelligence on Americans in bulk, at least "not wittingly." The intelligence director later apologized in writing and said that characterization was "clearly erroneous." Judge for yourself from this video: SOURCE: TalkingPoints Memo
UC Davis Protestors Pepper Sprayed (raw footage)
You must not ever forget this incident at U.C. Davis: Police pepper spraying and arresting students at UC Davis. The militarization of our local police, the War on our Youth, the fascist oppression of peaceful assembly, protest and free speech in America. During peacefully Occupy Movement,(Nov. 2011) police came in to tear down tents and proceeded to arrest students who stood in their way. Once students peacefully demanded the release of the arrested, a police officer unnecessarily pepper sprays the students to open a path for the rest of the officers. -- The officer who sprayed the students was UC Davis Police Lt. John Pike. -- Notice all the other police just standing around watching, as if nothing abnormal or outrageous is happening. This is a day that will forever live in ignominy in America.
