LA Billionaire Reinventing Your Health Care
A Los Angeles billionaire is about to present to the world a new technology which may be more important even than Obamacare. He is mapping the molecular life of all of mankind in the service of better health for each individual. Linking research, treatment and careful monitoring is also the only way to control costs and create accountability in medical care, he says. ... While the most powerful man in Washington struggles to expand health insurance, the richest man in Los Angeles is methodically constructing a far more fundamental medical effort: a digitally enabled, science-driven, personalized health care system. It is revolutionary! [From the HUFFINGTON POST]

Reject East SD Co as a national Drone test site
Wednesday, 12/04/2013
Julian and neighboring East County communities are banding together to stop the establishment of the region from being subjected to operation of one of the 6 national "Drone Test Sites". Second Meeting in Julian Dec. 4th. The FAA is scheduled to make a decision this December. There have been no public forums, informational hearings or opportunities for concerned citizens to ask about the drone test sites, and to express concerns and public input. In fact, many area residents do not even know that this proposal is being considered. The Military-Industrial Mafia is taking a direct strike against open democratic government.

Obama just launched single-payer in America
Sunday, 12/08/2013
Did you notice? Did you see what happened when everyone was complaining about a website? Single-payer got started in America. -- Vermont is using authority granted under the Affordable Care Act to start a single-payer system. -- Vermont, under the leadership of Governor Peter Shumlin, is set to implement the nation's first true single-payer, universal health care system. The plan, known as Green Mountain Care, has been a cornerstone of Shumlin's campaign platform, who has hailed universal health care as "a right and not a privilege." (From DAILY KOS)

This 'N That

The pens which write against disarmament are made with the same steel from which guns are made.
- Aristide Briand, French statesman, Nobel Peace Prize, 1926

Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being.
- Mahatma Gandhi

If man does find the solution for world peace it will be the most revolutionary reversal of his record that we have ever known.
- General of the Army George C. Marshall, 1945

I believe in compulsory cannibalism. If people were forced to eat what they killed there would be no more war.
- Abbie Hoffman

The real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth.
- Thich Nhat Hanh

I expect to pass through this world but once, therefore any good that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not come this way again.
- Stephen Grellett 1773-1855

A merely fallen enemy may rise again, but the reconciled one is truly vanquished.
- Johann Christoph Schiller

There have been periods of history in which episodes of terrible violence occurred but for which the word violence was never used...Violence is shrouded in justifying myths that lend it moral legitimacy, and these myths for the most part kept people from recognizing the violence for what it was. The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of their act as violence; rather they though of it as an act of divinely mandated righteousness. The same can be said of most of the violence we humans have ever committed.
- Gil Bailie

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
- Matthew 5:3

Violence produces only something resembling justice, but it distances people from the possibility of living justly, without violence.
- Leo Tolstoy

Peace is a gift,
- It is a gift we give to ourselves,

It is only by feeling your love that the poor will forgive you for the gifts of bread.
- St. Vincent de Paul

I don't do great things. I do small things with great love.
- Mother Teresa

Peace begins when the hungry are fed.
- Anonymous

The first principle of non-violent action is that of non-cooperation with everything humiliating.
- Cesar Chavez

Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence.
- Dorothy Thompson

There is nothing more agreeable in life than to make peace with the establishment and nothing more corrupting.
- Unknown

A large group of us were crowded into the Gestapo hall, and at that moment the circumstances of all our lives were the same. All of us occupied the same space, the men behind the desk no less than those about to be questioned. What distinguished each of us was only our inner attitude.
- Etty Hillesum (concentration camp victim)

The arms race can kill, though the weapons themselves may never be used...by their cost alone, armaments kill the poor by causing them to starve.
- Vatican statement to the U.N., 1976

Non-violence exacts a very high price from one who practices it. But once you are able to meet that demand then you can do most things.
- Cesar Chavez

We must be prepared to make heroic sacrifices for the cause of peace that we make ungrudgingly for the cause of war. There is no task that is more important or closer to my heart.
- Albert Einstein

I stand at the altar of murdered men, and, while I live, I fight their cause.
- Florence Nightingale, 1856

Abba Poeman said about Abba Prior that every single day he made a fresh beginning.

We need, in every community, a group of angelic troublemakers.
- Bayard Rustin

Life only demands from you the strength you possess. Only one feat is possible- not to have to run away.
- Dag Hammarskjold (1905-1961)Former UN General Secretary

Truly man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds them. We live by the death of others. We are burial places! I have from an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.
- Leonardo Da Vinci

Five enemies of peace inhabit with us--avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride; if these were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace.
- Petrarch

There are three truths: my truth, your truth and the truth.
- Chinese Proverb

Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
- Henry David Thoreau

To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice.
- Confucius

If all the Churches of Europe closed their doors until the drums ceased rolling they would act as a most powerful reminder that though the glory of war is a famous and ancient glory, it is not the final glory of God.
- George Bernard Shaw

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted
- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As long as ever you can.
- John Wesley

The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.
- Baha'ullah

War is, at first, the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isn't any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's being worse off.
- Karl Kraus (1874-1936)

A Rattlesnake, if Cornered will become so angry it will bite itself. That is exactly what the harboring of hate and resentment against others is -- a biting of oneself. We think we are harming others in holding these spites and hates, but the deeper harm is to ourselves.
- E. Stanley Jones

The law, in its majestic equality, forbids both rich and poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.
- Anatole France

In History, stagnant waters, whether they be the stagnant waters of custom or those of despotism, harbour no life; life is dependent on the ripples created by a few eccentric individuals. In homage to that life & vitality, the community has to brave certain perils and must countenance a measure of heresy. One must live dangerously if one wants to live at all.
- Herbert Read

It's a bit embarrassing to have been concerned with the human problem all one's life and find at the end that one has no more to offer by way of advice than "try to be a little better."
- Aldous Huxley

In all the ways you can,
- In all the places you can,

I am part and parcel of the whole and cannot find God apart from the rest of humanity.
- Mohandas Gandhi

Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is--whether its victim is human or animal--we cannot expect things to be much better in this world... We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity.
- Rachel Carson

What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world.
- Robert E. Lee, in a letter to his wife, 1864

World peace is us....We are each walking agents of the vision of peace we carry inside us.
- Kathleen Vande Kieft

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
- Arthur C. Clarke

Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
- Mohandas Gandhi

Since we are to be conformed to the image of Christ, how can we then fight our enemies with the sword? ... Spears and swords of iron we leave to those who, alas, consider human blood and swine's blood of well-nigh equal value ...

God looks unjust but is not. God asks more from those who more is given. They are not greater or better; they have greater responsibility. They must give more service. Live to serve.

We must be the change we wish to see.
- Mahatma Gandhi

And all good things are yours.
- Swedish proverb

Love the fellow of the resurrection, scooping up the dust and chanting "Live!"

The question is not, do we go to church; the question is, have we been converted. The crux of Christianity is not whether or not we give donations to popular charities but whether or not we are really committed to the poor.
- Joan Chittester, OSB

Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contibute the best that they have and all that they are.
- Hafsat Abiola

To save one life, it is as if you had saved the world.

By doing service, heart and mind are purified -- be convinced of this! To engage in service is a very powerful sadhana (spiritual discipline); do not become impatient. Rather serve your people with the utmost calm and have a kind word for everyone.
- Sri Anandamayee Ma

If peace . . . only had the music and pageantry of war, there'd be no wars.
- Sophie Kerr

Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace.
- Martin Luther (1483-1546)

One must care about a world one will never see.
- Bertrand Russell, 20th-century British mathematician and philosopher

Gandhi once declared that it was his wife who unwittingly taught him the effectiveness of nonviolence. Who better than women should know that battles can be won without resort to physical strength? Who better than we should know all the power that resides in noncooperation?
- Barbara Deming

No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There is too much work to do.
- Dorothy Day

Lead in jet fuel spewing over Vista & Carlsbad
News
Palomar Airport in Carlsbad: Most Americans are completely unaware that, while we started phasing lead out of automobile gasoline decades ago, it persists in general aviation plane fuel, commonly known as "avgas." Aviation is the single largest source of lead emissions in the U.S. and poses serious threats to public health -- especially in communities located near small airports where avgas is used. -- In fact, the EPA estimates that sixteen million people reside near and three million children attend school in close proximity to the 22,000 airports where leaded avgas may be used.

Documented in Miami: Cops caught in the act
News
" An infuriating story from the poor, black Miami Gardens, where 28-year-old Earl Sampson has a 38-page rap sheet from being stopped by police 258 times in four years. He's been arrested 62 times for one offense - trespassing - oddly, always at the same location: the neighborhood convenience store 207 Quickstop. Where, it turns out, he works. And often takes out the garbage. And is, then, arrested. Over and over and over. Fed up with his customers and employees being thus routinely harrassed, store owner Alex Saleh finally installed 15 video cameras to document the abuse. Now he plans to file a federal lawsuit against police. May he, Sampson and all the rest prosper." By Abby Zimet, CommonDreams.org

The Mythical foundation of the Tea Party (Part 1)
Article
UNTAUGHT HISTORY - The first law regulating Colonial money was passed by the British Parliament 1751, then expanded by a more restrictive law in 1763. The Stamp Act of 1765 required payment of various taxes in specie or English coin. Benjamin Franklin reported that only one year after implementation of the prohibition on Colonial Scrip, the streets of the Colonies were filled with unemployed and beggars, just like those he had seen in England, because there was not enough money to pay for their goods and work. The English Banker's new laws had reduced the circulating medium by half. Franklin added that this was "the original Colonial Script was made illegal by the Currency Act of 1764 and true cause of the American Revolution;" and not the tax on tea or the Stamp Act, as has been taught our children for generations in "history" books.

CANADA: Oil and rail safety don't mix
News
ANOTHER OIL train derailment and explosion in Canada has sent nearby residents fleeing from their homes in the middle of the night. It happened at 1 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 on a CN Rail line outside the hamlet of Gainford, Alberta, 53 miles west of Edmonton. The accident coincides with new steps by the Canadian government to extend oil and other resource extraction into the Arctic. 0-- "Opposition to tar sands pipelines and ocean-going tankers is so strong that the BC government has been obliged to posture as an ardent defender of strict safety standards [8] on any pipeline movement of oil or bitumen--all the while working furiously behind the scenes to push the project through." [From Socialist Worker]

News
Ohio State University campus police (OSU PD) recently acquired what appears to be a Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicle to add to their fleet. The police murder of a 13-year-old in Sonoma County: 48-year-old Sonoma County sheriff's deputy Erick Gelhaus spotted 13-year-old middle school student Andy Lopez walking alone in his neighborhood in Santa Rosa, Calif. A few moments later, Lopez was dead--his body riddled with six of the seven rounds filed by Gelhaus. -- The popular young man had committed no crime nor provoked the deputy in any way. His murder is a tragic reminder that domestic security forces in the U.S. are not deployed to keep the peace, but to terrorize working-class communities and people of color. {SocialistWorker.org)

The Mythical Foundation of the Tea Party (Part 2)
Article
The dangerous rabble-rousing Tea "Party" bases it's foundation upon the Boston Tea Party of Dec 16, 1773, maintaining this was the opening shot of the American Revolution that "saved our land" from foreign occupation. This is not quite accurate, as Benjamin Franklin avers the real cause of the American Revolution was the catastrophic economic depression caused when Britain outlawed our local currency and replaced it with British coin. Currency manipulation by Bankers sparked our revolution. There are lessons here for our present economic depression caused by currency manipulation to transfer public wealth to a tiny oligarchy.

New Pope steering Catholic church to compassion
Article
A Message from Sen. Bernie Sanders in praise of Pope Francis for his revolutionary encyclical on compassionate economics, and care for the poor; followed by excerpts from the Pope's message. It seems the new Pope is steering the Catholic church back to its earliest mission and spiritual purpose. (Even Bill Mahr quipped the he was thinking of becoming a Catholic, after reading the encyclical.)

UC Davis Protestors Pepper Sprayed (raw footage)

You must not ever forget this incident at U.C. Davis: Police pepper spraying and arresting students at UC Davis. The militarization of our local police, the War on our Youth, the fascist oppression of peaceful assembly, protest and free speech in America. During peacefully Occupy Movement,(Nov. 2011) police came in to tear down tents and proceeded to arrest students who stood in their way. Once students peacefully demanded the release of the arrested, a police officer unnecessarily pepper sprays the students to open a path for the rest of the officers. -- The officer who sprayed the students was UC Davis Police Lt. John Pike. -- Notice all the other police just standing around watching, as if nothing abnormal or outrageous is happening. This is a day that will forever live in ignominy in America.

Eliz Warren shames senators on intransigence

Did you see Elizabeth Warren's amazing speech on the Senate floor about how Republicans are abusing the filibuster? -- It hasn't been even a month since the Republicans shut down the government, and they're already trying to paralyze the government again. There are vacancies on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, and Republicans now hold the dubious distinction of filibustering all three women that President Obama nominated to fill those vacancies. They all have extraordinary legal resumes and have received bipartisan support from top litigators around the country. They are among the top legal minds of a generation. So WHY have the Republicans declared war on our women leaders?

OBAMA: Hardhearted, Unmerciful or Feckless?
Article
From the New York TIMES - Harry S. Truman pardoned his first prisoner eight days after taking office. In contrast, Mr. Obama waited 682 days into his presidency before using his power, and even then he did so sparingly, almost trivially. Even now, well into the fifth year of his presidency, he has pardoned only 39 people, 25 of whom had been sentenced only to probation. -- It is time for him to take more seriously not only his constitutional power, but also his duty to leaven with mercy an often indefensible federal system of criminal justice."

The Papal edict from Pope Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh was a cautious admirer of Pope Francis until the Pope attacked the avaricious excesses of crony Capitalism, and admonished compassion for the poor. Then pope Limbaugh went nuts: "Pope Francis attacked unfettered capitalism as 'a new tyranny.' He beseeched global leaders to fight poverty and growing inequality, in a document on Tuesday setting out a platform for his papacy and calling for a renewal of the Catholic Church. In it, Pope Francis went further than previous comments criticizing the global economic system, attacking the 'idolatry of money.' ... This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope. There's no such -- "unfettered capitalism"? That doesn't exist anywhere.

TEXAS rocked by earthquakes in wake of Fracking

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake has struck an area in north Texas - it's the strongest tremor there in 5 years. No damage or injuries are reported - but locals have been left emotionally shaken. And not everyone's blaming mother nature. Some scientists say that the drilling in nearby fracking wells is actually setting off the quakes. The area's been hit by more than a dozen tremors this month alone. It's seen more earthquakes since fracking began there in 2008, than during the previous four decades combined.

The speech that brought the wrath of war mongers

"The time has come for America to hear the truth about this tragic war", spoke Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in April 1967. This abbreviated version of perhaps his greatest speech, "Beyond Vietnam", was so powerful it shook the Pentagon and the war machine of America. It drew violent condemnation and spread virulent hatred of him for speaking the Truth. Today we have a new generation speaking the truth, and once again the dark fascist forces are seeking to silence them. These word from Dr. King are immortal.

Manning Video:American troops slaughter civilians

Video depicts a US Apache attack helicopter killing 12 civilians and wounding two children on the ground in Baghdad in 2007. The helicopter then fired on and killed the people trying to rescue the wounded. Finally, a US tank drove over one of the bodies, cutting the man in half. These acts constitute three separate war crimes. All with calloused video-game contempt for human life. - Manning fulfilled his legal duty to report war crimes. He complied with his legal duty to obey lawful orders but also his legal duty to disobey unlawful orders. -- The Army covered up the evidence and declared the war crime "justified". Now they say that exposing the massacre is criminal.
