Event Reminders: Reject East SD Co as a national Drone test siteWednesday, 12/04/2013 Julian and neighboring East County communities are banding together to stop the establishment of the region from being subjected to operation of one of the 6 national "Drone Test Sites". Second Meeting in Julian Dec. 4th. The FAA is scheduled to make a decision this December. There have been no public forums, informational hearings or opportunities for concerned citizens to ask about the drone test sites, and to express concerns and public input. In fact, many area residents do not even know that this proposal is being considered. The Military-Industrial Mafia is taking a direct strike against open democratic government. The poor cannot be convinced that God is neutral . . . When the rich make war it's the poor that die. Aye, fight! But not your neighbor. Fight rather all the things that cause you and your neighbor to fight. When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS! The story of the human race is characterized by efforts to get along much more than by violent disputes, although it's the latter that make the history books. Violence is actually exceptional. The human race has survived because of cooperation, not aggression. Joy is the most infallible sign of the presence of God. If Columbus had an advisory committee he would probably still be at the dock. It is only by feeling your love that the poor will forgive you for the gifts of bread. A spiritual person tries less to be godly than to be deeply human. War is as outmoded as cannibalism, chattel slavery, blood-feuds, and dueling, an insult to God and humanity...a daily crucifixion of Christ. Very few people chose war. They chose selfishness and the result was war. Each of us, individually and nationally, must choose: total love or total war. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. Productive work, love and thought are possible only if a person can be, when necessary, quiet and alone. To be able to listen to oneself is the necessary condition for relating oneself to others. The soul of our country needs to be awakened . . .When leaders act contrary to conscience, we must act contrary to leaders. The ultimate measure of a person is not where one stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where one stands in times of challenge and controversy. In order to find the edge, you must risk going over the edge. If you obey all the rules you will miss the fun. Instead of tug o' war, let's play hug o' war. Those for whom peace is no more than a dream are asleep to the future. The question is not, do we go to church; the question is, have we been converted. The crux of Christianity is not whether or not we give donations to popular charities but whether or not we are really committed to the poor. Angry heart -- you have no chance against my prayers. The finger pulls the trigger, but the trigger may also be pulling the finger. And all good things are yours. There have been periods of history in which episodes of terrible violence occurred but for which the word violence was never used...Violence is shrouded in justifying myths that lend it moral legitimacy, and these myths for the most part kept people from recognizing the violence for what it was. The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of their act as violence; rather they though of it as an act of divinely mandated righteousness. The same can be said of most of the violence we humans have ever committed. Fondly do we hope, ferverently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives. It is folly to punish your neighbor by fire when you live next door. Do all the good you can, Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all. Peace is the work of justice indirectly, in so far as justice removes the obstacles to peace; but it is the work of charity (love) directly, since charity, according to its very notion, causes peace. In separateness lies the world's great misery; in compassion lies the world's true strength. If we work in marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten and brighten to all eternity. America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. I claim to be no more than an average person with less than average ability. I have not the shadow of doubt that any man or woman can achieve what I have, if he or she would make the same effort and cultivate the same hope and faith. Much violence is based on the illusion that life is a property to be defended and not to be shared. We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it. The Attainment of freedom, whether for a person, a nation or a world, must be in exact proportion to the attainment of nonviolence for each. Talk less, say more, When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it? When evil is allowed to compete with good, evil has an emotional populist appeal that wins out unless good men and women stand as a vanguard against abuse. Sometime in your life, hope that you might see one starved man, the look on his face when the bread finally arrives. Hope that you might have baked it or bought or even kneaded it yourself. For that look on his face, for your meeting his eyes across a piece of bread, you might be willing to lose a lot, or suffer a lot, or die a little, even. The first essential characteristics of nonviolent action is that it is creative. The first casualty when war comes is truth. It is easier to lead men to combat, stirring up their passion, than to restrain them and direct them toward the patient labors of peace. I stand at the altar of murdered men, and, while I live, I fight their cause. None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality. No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There is too much work to do. If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Video depicts a US Apache attack helicopter killing 12 civilians and wounding two children on the ground in Baghdad in 2007. The helicopter then fired on and killed the people trying to rescue the wounded. Finally, a US tank drove over one of the bodies, cutting the man in half. These acts constitute three separate war crimes. All with calloused video-game contempt for human life. - Manning fulfilled his legal duty to report war crimes. He complied with his legal duty to obey lawful orders but also his legal duty to disobey unlawful orders. -- The Army covered up the evidence and declared the war crime "justified". Now they say that exposing the massacre is criminal.
