He who can control his rising anger as a coachman controls his carriage at full speed, this man I call a good driver; others merely hold the reins. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. One must care about a world one will never see. When you're finally up on the moon, looking back at the earth, all these differences and nationalistic traits are pretty well going to blend and you're going to get a concept that maybe this is really one world and why the hell can't we learn to live together like decent people? When someone steals another's clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not? The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry; the coat unused in your closet belongs to the one who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the one who has no shoes; the money which you hoard up belongs to the poor. We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it. The Attainment of freedom, whether for a person, a nation or a world, must be in exact proportion to the attainment of nonviolence for each. The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil. The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants and to seek peace like intellectual pygmies The absence of risk is a sure sign of mediocrity. Five enemies of peace inhabit with us--avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride; if these were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace. Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction. No one is so foolish as to prefer to peace, war, in which, instead of sons burying their fathers, fathers bury their sons. If it were proved to me that in making war, my ideal had a chance of being realized, I would still say "No" to war. For one does not create human society on mounds of corpses. All we ask, God, is to be safe from the rain, just warm enough in winter to watch the snow with a smile, have enough to eat so that our hunger will not turn us to angry beasts, and sanity enough to make justice that will not kill our love of life. It's a bit embarrassing to have been concerned with the human problem all one's life and find at the end that one has no more to offer by way of advice than "try to be a little better." If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos. The video you never saw: In over 11 years since this happened, this is the first time I've ever seen this...I don't even remember seeing/hearing about this evacuation on the news. The fact is, it was all done in 9 hours ... 500,000 people... This is a video well worth watching. The guy at the end (same guy who is at the beginning) has some great words to live by for all of us. Christian Syrian Woman Destroys John McCain at Town Hall Meeting. The woman speaks about this, stating we can bring peace through shutting down Iran and Saudi Arabia. -- She also talks about how the Rebel forces are largely not even Syrians. These are foreign born members of Al Qaeda who have simply come to Syria as jihadists and these are the people we are supporting. -- John McCain acts as though he knows more about Syria then a woman who was born there and has family there. Video depicts a US Apache attack helicopter killing 12 civilians and wounding two children on the ground in Baghdad in 2007. The helicopter then fired on and killed the people trying to rescue the wounded. Finally, a US tank drove over one of the bodies, cutting the man in half. These acts constitute three separate war crimes. All with calloused video-game contempt for human life. - Manning fulfilled his legal duty to report war crimes.
