Vets for Peace expose Rep. Bono-Mack
Wednesday, 11/07/2012
Rep. Bono-Mack (R-CA) supporters say exposing her voting record is caused a disturbance at Expo at fairgrounds. Tom Swann told event organizers in a loud voice they would have to arrest him if they wanted him to stop distributing flyers exposing Rep. Mary Bono-Mack’' poor voting record on veteran issues. Vet for Peace Tom Swann, Tracy Turner and Corbett Brattin were escorted off the county property by police after two hours of the four hour long Veterans Expo that attracted about 200 people. Randy Schecher put flyers on cars in the parking lot and was not noticed by anyone.

This 'N That

I have great belief in the fact that whenever there is chaos, it creates wonderful thinking. I consider chaos a gift.
- Septima Poinsette Clark

Let us plant dates even though those who plant them will never eat them. We must live by the love of what we will never see. This is the secret discipline. It is a refusal to let the creative act be dissolved away in immediate sense experience, and a stubborn commitment to the future of our grandchildren. Such disciplined love is what has given prophets, revolutionaries, and saints the courage to die for the future they envisaged. They make their own bodies the seed of their highest hope.
- Ruben Alves, Tomorrow’s Child

Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
- Mohandas Gandhi

Non-violence is not inaction. It is not discussion. It is not for the timid or weak...Non-violence is hard work. It is the willingness to sacrifice. It is the patience to win.
- Cesar Chavez

The evils of government are directly proportional to the tolerance of the people.
- Frank Kent

When the rich make war, it's the poor that die.
- Jean-Paul Sartre

Activism pays the rent on being alive and being here on the planet.
- Alice Walker

The love of one's country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?
- Pablo Casals

Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act on it.
- Pablo Casals

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.
- Ken Keyes, Jr., quoted in Catholic Digest, June 2000

Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
- Henry David Thoreau

All violence consists in some people forcing others, under threat of suffering or death, to do what the do not want to do.
- Leo Tolstoy

The destiny of humans cannot be separated from the destiny of earth.
- Thomas Berry

In every child who is born, no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again: and in him, too, once more, and of each of us, our terrific responsibility toward human life; toward the utmost idea of goodness, of the horror of terror, and of God.
- James Agee

Nonviolence which is a quality of the heart, cannot come by an appeal to the brain.
- Mahatma Gandhi

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The poor cannot be convinced that God is neutral . . .
- Author Unknown

The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.
- Martin Luther King

We can’t become nonviolent on the basis of intellectual conviction. Commitment to nonviolence demands a very profound conversion of mind and heart. If we take the time to pray with Jesus, we too will be converted in mind and heart. It won’t work if we try to reason it out. The only way is through a change of heart, a coming into a way of being that is the way of Jesus.
- Bishop Thomas Gumbleton

An act of love, a voluntary taking on oneself of some of the pain of the world, increases the courage and love and hope of all.
- Dorothy Day

Everyone takes the limits of his own vision for the limits of the world.
- Arthur Schopenhauer

God grant me the courage to change the things I can, the patience to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference.
- The Serenity Prayer

Smiling is very important. If we are not able to smile, then the world will not have peace. It is not by going out for a demonstration against nuclear missiles that we can bring about peace. It is with our capacity of smiling, breathing, and being peace that we can make peace.
- Thich Nhat Hanh

When we treat man as he is, we make him worse than he is; when we treat him as if he already were what he potentially could be, we make him what he should be.
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants and to seek peace like intellectual pygmies
- Basil O'Connor

I am done with great things and big things, great institutions and big success, and I am for those tiny invisible molecular moral forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capillary oozing of water, yet which if you give them time, will rend the hardest monuments of man's pride.
- William James

It is not your obligation to complete your work, but you are not at liberty to quit.
- Talmud

If we just worry about the big picture, we are powerless. So my secret is to start right away doing whatever little work I can do. I try to give joy to one person in the morning, and remove the suffering of one person in the afternoon. If you and your friends do not despise the small work, a million people will remove a lot of suffering. That is the secret. Start right now.
- Sister Chän Khöng

You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.
- Malcolm X

People who are willing to give up freedom for the sake of short term security, deserve neither freedom nor security.
- Benjamin Franklin

Nuclear war is inevitable, says the pessimists; Nuclear war is impossible, says the optimists; Nuclear war is inevitable unless we make it impossible, says the realists.
- Sydney J. Harris

Until lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunters.
- African Proverb

If you love the justice of Jesus Christ more than you fear human judgment then you will seek to do compassion. Compassion means that if I see my friend and my enemy in equal need, I shall help them both equally. Justice demands that we seek and find the stranger, the broken, the prisoner and comfort them and offer them our help. Here lies the holy compassion of God that causes the devils much distress.
- Mechtild of Magdeburg

All works of love are works of peace.
- Mother Teresa

The governors of the world believe, and have always believed, that virtue can only be taught by teaching falsehood, and that any man who knew the truth would be wicked. I disbelieve this, absolutely and entirely. I believe that love of truth is the basis of all real virtue, and that virtues based upon lies can only do harm.
- Bertrand Russell

There is nothing that war has ever achieved that we could not better achieve without it.
- Havelock Ellis

The first principle of non-violent action is that of non-cooperation with everything humiliating.
- Cesar Chavez

What is the revolution that we need? We need to dissolve the lie that some people have a right to think of other people as their property. And we need at last to form a circle that includes us all, in which all of us are seen as equal... We do not belong to the other, but our lives are linked; we belong in a circle of others.
- Barbara Deming

The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty - it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There's a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.
- Mother Teresa

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked [on the Jericho Road] was: ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But...the good Samaritan reversed the question: ‘If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?'
- Martin Luther King

A good end sanctify evil means; not must we ever do evil, that good might come of it. We are ready to retaliate, rather than forgive or gain by love and information . . . Force may subdue, but love gains. And one that forgives first wins the laurel.
- William Penn

When we yield to discouragement it is usually because we give too much thought to the past and to the future.
- St. Therese of Lisieux

I'd like someone to mention the day that Martin Luther King, Jr., tried to give his life serving others. I'd like somebody to say that day, that Martin Luther King tried to love somebody. I want you to say that day, that I tried to be right on the war question. I want you to be able to say that day, that I did try to feed the hungry . . . I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity. Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness . . . I want to leave a committed life behind.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Bless your persecutors; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Have the same attitude toward all. Put away ambitious thoughts and associate with those who are lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never repay injury with injury. See that your conduct is honorable in the eyes of all. If possible, live peacefully with everyone. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; leave that to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay," says the Lord. But "If your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals upon their heads." Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.
- Romans 12:14-21

If we work in marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten and brighten to all eternity.
- Daniel Webster

Nonviolence doesn't always work -- but violence never does.
- Madge Michaels-Cyrus

Conflict is inevitable, but combat is optional.
- Max Lucado

Life is a whim of several billion cells to be you for a while.

If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.
- John F. Kennedy

We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace.
- Gladstone

Young people say, What is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at at time, take one step at a time; we can be responsible only for the one action in the present moment. But we can beg for an increase of love in our hearts that will vitalize and transform all our individual actions, and know that God will take them and multiply them, as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes.
- Dorothy Day, 1963

Our future on this planet, exposed as it is to nuclear annihilation, depends one one single factor: humanity must make a moral about-face.

No man is an island entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
- John Donne

I stand at the altar of murdered men, and, while I live, I fight their cause.
- Florence Nightingale, 1856

The only thing that's been a worse flop than the organization of nonviolence has been the organization of violence.
- Joan Baez

They make a desert and call it peace.
- Tactitus

We must have research for peace ... It would embrace the outstanding problems of morality. The time has come for man's intellect, his scientific method, to win over the immoral brutality and irrationality of war and militarism ... Now we are forced to eliminate from the world forever this vestige of prehistoric barbarism, this curse to the human race.
- Linus Pauling

The world will not be inherited by the strongest, it will be inherited by those most able to change

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.
- John Wesley

Mounting an expedition to actualize a Compassionate Commonwealth of all peoples...is the great spiritual challenge of our time.
- Sam Keen

The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.
- Hannah Arendt, 20th-century German political philosopher and author

A great many people think they are thinking when they are just rearranging their prejudices.
- William James

We cannot have peace if we are only concerned with peace. War is not an accident. It is the logical outcome of a certain way of life. If we want to attack war, we have to attack that way of life.
- A. J. Muste

One must care about a world one will never see.
- Bertrand Russell, 20th-century British mathematician and philosopher

Youth is the first victim of war; the first fruit of peace. It takes 20 years or more of peace to make a man; it takes only 20 seconds of war to destroy him.
- King Baudouin I, King of Belgium

If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos.
- Martin Luther King Jr.

Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.
- Thomas Edison

God looks unjust but is not. God asks more from those who more is given. They are not greater or better; they have greater responsibility. They must give more service. Live to serve.
- Dom Helder Camara

. . . [T]o live not with hands clenched to grasp, to strike, to hold tight to a life that is always slipping away the more tightly we hold it, but . . . to live with the hands stretched out both to give and receive with gladness.

A large group of us were crowded into the Gestapo hall, and at that moment the circumstances of all our lives were the same. All of us occupied the same space, the men behind the desk no less than those about to be questioned. What distinguished each of us was only our inner attitude.
- Etty Hillesum (concentration camp victim)

We used to wonder where war lived, what it was that made it so vile. And now we realize that we know where it lives, that it is inside ourselves.
- Albert Camus

All social life is essentially practical. All mysterious which lead theory to mysticism find their rational solution in human practice and in the comprehension of the practice.
- Karl Marx

If it's natural to kill, how come men have to go into training to learn how?

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS!
- Mahatma Gandhi

True human goodness, in all its purity and freedom, can come to the fore only when its recipient has no power. Mankind's true moral test, its fundamental test (which lies deeply buried from view), consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals. And in this respect mankind has suffered a fundamental debacle, a debacle so fundamental that all others stem from it.

Yes on Prop. 34-Letter to The Coast News
Article
My letter in The Coast News-Yes on Prop. 34. Here are the many reasons, supported by facts, why I support Prop 34 to replace the death penalty in California with life without parole: California’s death penalty is broken; many attempts to "fix" the system have failed. Bonnie Dumanis herself has called the death penalty a "hollow promise." We know that innocent people have been convicted of murder in California. In 2011 alone, three men were exonerated after serving a total of 57 years in California prisons-By Alessandra Colfi. [Editor's note: The Post encourages readers to write letters in support of Prop 34 to The Coast News, the UT and NCTimes, since they haven't taken a position on Prop 34 yet and we need to weigh in to make sure Prop 34 wins-it's appalling that it's trailing in the polls.]

Best Letter to Editor: NO on PROP 32
Article
North County letter writer Peg Mitchell of San Marcos wrote this remarkable letter which clearly and succinctly explains why PROP 32 is grossly unfair to working Americans while allowing immense advantage for wealthy corporatists and Super PACs. THANK YOU, PEG.

Escondido: Prop P = Power for Politicians
News
Council members Waldron and Gallo have proposed that Escondido change from its current status as a general law city to a charter city. Their proposal has received final Council approval and is on the November 6 ballot. It gives more power to politicians – Charter status releases officials from state supervision. -- It allows new taxes and higher fees -- Charter cities have increased abilities to levy taxes and fees. It allows deficit spending -- It allows higher Council pay – Proponents claim they will abide by state pay rules, but there's more to the story ...

Prop 30 the most important issue on your ballot
News
"There's no doubt that the most important measure on the Nov. 6 ballot is Proposition 30. This is the governor's proposal to raise $6 billion a year in state revenue through a four-year, quarter-percent sales tax and a seven-year tax on the income of the wealthy. -- If Proposition 30 doesn't pass, Gov. Jerry Brown and supporters say, then nearly $6 billion will be cut from the budgets of the state's public schools and universities on Nov. 7. The results will be catastrophic: Teachers across the state will be laid off; admissions at state colleges and universities will be cut; tuition at California State Universities will go up by $150 a semester; K-12 students will have their school years cut by more than a week, and the state's slowly recovering economy could be thrown into a tailspin. -- And that's just in the first year. The cuts will continue until the economy significantly improves or the state finds a rich gold vein in one of its state parks." [Los Angeles DAILY NEWS]

Chemical Corp, $1 million daily fighting Prop 37
News
Pesticide and chemical corporations are currently spending over $1 million a day to defeat Prop 37, but can't seem to buy the voters, who do not trust the likes of Monsant, DOW Chemical, Dupont, Bayer. A growing body of research links GMO foods to potential health risks, increased pesticide use, biodiversity loss, the emergence of super bugs" and "super weeds" and the unintentional contamination of conventional crops. -- COST: What Prop 37 will do is add a line of ink to a label -- as is currently required for 3,000 other ingredients. But knowing the truth rewards consumers.[From ALTERNET]

News
Hi Everyone ... Donna from our Vista GO Team just called me. She had filled out her ballot w/a gel pen and noticed that some of it bled through to the other side. Top 12 contributors to Romney, Obama camps
News
Never has there been such a flood of corporate spending for the Republican and Democratic candidates for president. Get disgusted and vote for another candidate! Here are lists of the TOP 12 contribution sources for each:

Obama: Prosecuting Wall St. would be too political

President Obama tells 60 minutes that he has no control over the justice dept, that what Wall Street did (fraud, violating Sarbanes-Oxley) was perfectly legal. And that if he told the justice department what to do it would look "political". Disgusted yet? Vote for another candidate! ????

'Mitt Romney was not an effective governor.'

Legislators from Massachusetts share how they feel about Mitt Romney's record as Massachusetts governor. As Jay Kaufman, Massachusetts State Representative for the 15th Middlesex District shares: "You will hear this from Republicans and Democrats: Mitt Romney was not an effective governor." -- "When Mitt Romney left Bain, hundreds of plants, factories, and stores were shuttered. Workers saw their wages slashed, their jobs sent overseas. Romney made a fortune, now he wants to bring that business experience to us."

Romney joke about global warming backfires

Mitt Romney ridicules: "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans... And to heal the planet... My promise is to help you and your family." This tragic denial by Romney of the effects of GLOBAL WARMING backfires against him, as the forecasts of meteorologists is seen in the devastating, Frankenstorm Sandy.

Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party: Why I am running

Jill Stein, 2012 Green Party Presidential Candidate, discusses why she entered the world of politics. A mother and medical doctor with 25 years of practice, tells why she is running for President on the GREEN PARTY ticket. Neither Obama nor Romney address these issues about which Stein speaks.

PROP 37 -Deadly truth about 'Round Up' pesticides

PROP 37 WAR - For 200 years the US did not allow the patenting of life. Food crops were deliberately excluded from article one of the constitution on moral grounds. In a 1978, one majority vote supreme court decision GM won the ability to patent genetically engineered life. Thus giving corporations the right to own species of the earth. In 1995 Monsanto, makers of 'Round Up' herbicides started buying up seed companies and genetically engineering seeds to make them 'Round Up Ready' or resistent to Round Up herbicide. Whoever owns the seeds, controls the food.

Monsanto's Genetic Conspiracy

YES on PROP 37 - What Monsanto Doesn't Want You To Know... The connections between Monsanto and the FDA are very alarming, many highly influential politicians have worked for and or have tie with Monsanto. Chemical and pesticide corporations, such as Monsanto, have infiltrated and commandeered government agencies which are supposed to protect food safety in America. -- In the latest mail flyer they claim "Prop 37 would give CA consumers incomplete ... information", despite the fact that Monsanto would give NO INFORMATION at all.

Phony Ryan washes dishes at Ohio Soup Kitchen

The head of a charity in Ohio is not pleased with Paul Ryan's photo op at a soup kitchen in Ohio, saying that the Romney campaign "ramrodded their way" into their facility unannounced. -- The president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, Brian J. Antag, told the Washington Post: "We're a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations. It's strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors." He added: "The photo-op they did wasn't even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall." -- P.S. - The pots had already been washed.

Should customers pay for shuttered nuke plant?
News
An attorney for The Utility Reform Network, a consumer advocacy group, says that the uncertainty surrounding San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station's future is creating real headaches for the long term and that Edison is being extremely hush-hush about its restart plans for the plant. Normally, Edison holds confidential meeting with the PUC to keep them in the know, but, Freedman says, there hasn’t been any sign that that is happening. -- CPUC rules require that once a plant is shut down for nine months, then the utility must file a notice with the commission explaining the plan to fix it. November will be the nine-month mark.

WalMart backs down in face of Union pressure
News
AMAZING! WalMart actually backed down in the face of Union strike. "After warehouse workers in Walmart's supply chain risked everything by going on strike, nearly 100,000 members of the SumOfUs.org community stood up with them calling for Walmart to work with suppliers to improve working conditions and not retaliate against striking workers. Then workers at a Chicago-area distribution center delivered your signatures to Walmart managers, and the next day the workers were told they could return to work with no retaliation and receive full back-pay for their time on strike."

NRC acts to study cancer risks near San Onofre
News
"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff is implementing a National Academy of Sciences committee’s recommendations to perform a pilot study of cancer risk in populations around six U.S. nuclear power plant sites and a nuclear fuel facility. The NRC is asking the Academy to carry out this effort, which will help the agency determine whether to extend the study to the remaining U.S. reactor and certain fuel cycle sites. -- The pilot effort, described in the staff's update (SECY-12-0136) to the agency’s five Commissioners, will examine each of the seven sites with two types of epidemiological studies." San Onofre is one of the six plants.

NYPD Brutally Beat Homeless Man In Synagogue

On October 8, 21-year-old Ehud Halevi was sleeping in a youth center run by the New York synagogue where he's a member. Ehud is homeless, so his Rabbi -- who runs programs for at-risk youth like Ehud -- had told him back in September he could sleep there. In a video that's now gone viral on the internet, two New York police officers are shown waking Ehud in the early morning. Even though Ehud explains to them that he has permission to sleep at the center, they try to arrest him. Then, the officers beat Ehud for almost 5 minutes straight -- even after Ehud can be seen lying down.  And despite the NYPD's beating, it's Ehud who's being charged with assault, and he faces 5 years in prison. Rabbi Moishe Feiglin feels terrible. This happened at his synagogue’s center and to one of his congregants -- and he just wants Ehud's nightmare to end. Rabbi Feiglin started a petition on Change.org calling for the Brooklyn District Attorney to drop all charges against Ehud. -- So far, the NYPD officer who was most involved in Ehud's beating has only been minimally disciplined -- his gun has been taken away and he's been placed on desk duty -- but the other officer hasn't been disciplined at all. Rabbi Feiglin says this is unacceptable. Ehud was eventually arrested and charged with trespassing and assaulting an officer, even though the video shows he didn't fight back.

The naked face of a police state in America

Police pepper spraying and arresting students at UC Davis - In this video, now gone viral nationwide, a group of college students are huddled on the ground in a defensive position at UC Davis on November 18. UC police Lt. John Pike, then casually douses them with a chemical agent. Bystanders who were simply watching what was going on are also exposed. - If the police had legal grounds to make arrests, it seems apparent from the video that little or no force was necessary to achieve that goal. The students are obviously not a threat to the officers. It appears that the heavily armored riot police could have simply grabbed them and put them in flexi-cuffs had they chosen to do so. That means that this entire assault appears to be a perfect example of excessive force.

GW Bush's great 'Iraqi Quack Quack' speech

THE BIG LIE - The order and the pronouncement of these repetitious words uttered by GW Bush in a 30 minutes speech have not been altered. It was in this speech made in a large auditorium in Cincinnati in 2002 that Bush was telling the world that the US was going to invade Iraq. -- Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels was the master of the “big lie” tactic in which a lie, no matter how outrageous, is repeated often enough that it will eventually be accepted as truth. Goebbels explained: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

LETTERS awards night Jan. 26, 2013
News
The next Letters Night (Jan 26, 2013 - our 16th annual) may be our last! The North County Times was purchased by Doug Manchester and has already (after 2 weeks) transformed into nothing more than a North County section of the Union-Tribune, which Manchester purchased earlier this year. This is very bad news for North County because local news and other coverage will most likely be greatly reduced. This is part of the overall deterioration and consolidation of the hard-copy news business. -- It’s too early to tell what Step-Papa" Doug will do with the unique Letters section, but it doesn’t look good.

Manning Video:American troops slaughter civilians

Army intel analyst Bradley Manning faces decades in prison for allegedly leaking this video of a U.S. helicopter attack killing 11 civilians and wounding two children in Baghdad, Iraq. The Army covered up the evidence and declared the war crime "justified". Now they say that exposing the massacre is criminal.

Help San Elijo Conservancy Preserve Gateway Park
News
The San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy website requests you to become part of an historic campaign to create Gateway Park. For more than 20 years, the community has fought to protect the Gateway Property, open space tucked between Solana Beach and San Elijo Lagoon, just east of Cardiff State Beach along Scenic Highway 101. In December 2011, the Conservancy purchased it for $3.75 million. Members of the community stepped forward to loan the Conservancy the funds to acquire the property. Now you can participate in a once-in-a-generation opportunity to do what was not possible before: secure this land for public enjoyment. With your donations, they will transform the Gateway Property into Gateway Park – a testament to community resolve and generosity. -Article reprinted from The Coast News.

Ted Olson Interview With Fox News Chris Wallace

Wallace, insinuating that Gay Marriage is judicial activism, asks where is it in the Constitution that permits gay mariage. "Where is the right to interracial marriage in the Constitution" asked Ted Olsen of Wallace. Brilliant arguments by Olson. When Wallace insists the voters have the right to outlaw gay marriage, Olson asks if it would be constitutional for the voters to force blacks to drink at separate water fountains.

57 years ago: Uncommon bravery in Montgomery, AL
Article
The Montgomery bus boycott began on December 5, 1955, four days after Rosa Parks' arrest for refusing to give her bus seat to a white man. Although the boycott was originally planned to last only one day, the organizers of the boycott, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., decided to extend it until the practice of public transportation segregation was outlawed. -- The boycott ended 381 days later, on December 20, 1956, the day the city of Montgomery received a court order demanding immediate integration of the buses. Here is a heart wrenching story from that period ...
