Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing that we know about living. - General Omar Bradley The story of the human race is characterized by efforts to get along much more than by violent disputes, although it's the latter that make the history books. Violence is actually exceptional. The human race has survived because of cooperation, not aggression. - Gerard Vanderhaar Change comes not from men and women changing their minds, but from the change from one generation to the next. - J. K. Galbraith The bomb that fell on Hiroshima fell on America, too. - Hermann Hagedorn Dust turned to hope. - Elie Weisel What is the revolution that we need? We need to dissolve the lie that some people have a right to think of other people as their property. And we need at last to form a circle that includes us all, in which all of us are seen as equal... We do not belong to the other, but our lives are linked; we belong in a circle of others. - Barbara Deming The longer we listen to one another - with real attention - the more commonality we will find in all our lives. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty - it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There's a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God. - Mother Teresa Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice. It demands greater heroism than war. It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience. The Christian fight for peace is not to be confused with defeatism. - Thomas Merton Many oppressors are also oppressed. Nonviolent confrontation is the only confrontation that allows us to respond realistically to such complexity. - Jane Meyerding Since we are to be conformed to the image of Christ, how can we then fight our enemies with the sword? ... Fukushima's disaster for Japanese farmers News By Dave Patterson of Ramona: "Chieko Shiina, mother, organic farmer, whose life was tied to the earth was in San Diego on July 7, 2011 to help us understand what happened to the people of Japan when the earthquake and tsunami destroyed the Fukushimi Diachi nuclear plant, and what she and others have done there. What we learned is that the nightmare has only begun for the people of Japan, and how the efforts of Chieko Shiina and others are empowering the people to help themselves, as the Japanese government appears powerless, to help. "
Failure to be open and honest with us Americans Article Mitt Romney is whining and complaining about the demands for him to release his tax returns. Mr. Romney has persistently refused to tell voters about his finances. Even now it is not clear how much money he has made from Bain in the 13 (or 10) years since he left the company. The more financial experts dig into his opaque financial shenanigans and schemes, the more Americans distrust this man. Read this EDITORIAL from the New York Times

We are guaranteeing another Great Depression Article By Paul KRUGMAN - NY Times - The GREAT DEPRESSION "...started with a banking crisis in a small European country (Austria). Austria tried to step in with a bank rescue - but the spiraling cost of the rescue put the government's own solvency in doubt. Austria's troubles shouldn't have been big enough to have large effects on the world economy, but in practice they created a panic that spread around the world. Sound familiar? -- And it's happening again, both in Europe and in America."

GW Bush a whale lover compared to Obama?
South Korea just announced a plan to resume whaling, despite a 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling set by the International Whaling Commission. The announcement sparked international outcry from activists and governments, including the US. But is outcry enough? Or do you need to take more direct action? Alyona talks to anti-whaling activist and founder of the Sea Shepard organization Captain Paul Watson who just last week went as far as saying that the Obama administration makes the George Bush administration look like a bunch of whale huggers, and that no president since Ronald Reagan has betrayed whales more, than this one.

The naked face of a police state in America
Police pepper spraying and arresting students at UC Davis - In this video, now gone viral nationwide, a group of college students are huddled on the ground in a defensive position at UC Davis on November 18. UC police Lt. John Pike, then casually douses them with a chemical agent. Bystanders who were simply watching what was going on are also exposed. - If the police had legal grounds to make arrests, it seems apparent from the video that little or no force was necessary to achieve that goal. The students are obviously not a threat to the officers. It appears that the heavily armored riot police could have simply grabbed them and put them in flexi-cuffs had they chosen to do so. That means that this entire assault appears to be a perfect example of excessive force. WmJmmnMkuEM Ted Olson Interview With Fox News Chris Wallace
Wallace, insinuating that Gay Marriage is judicial activism, asks where is it in the Constitution that permits gay mariage. "Where is the right to interracial marriage in the Constitution" asked Ted Olsen of Wallace. Brilliant arguments by Olson. When Wallace insists the voters have the right to outlaw gay marriage, Olson asks if it would be constitutional for the voters to force blacks to drink at separate water fountains. Most profound speech by a 12 yr old child
This is an incredible video of a Canadian girl who spoke to the United Nations and left them completely silent and speechless for six minutes. Her name is Severn Cullis-Suzuki, and her speech was given at a U.N. assembly in Brazil when she was twelve years old. She had raised all the money to travel to the delegation, five thousand miles from her home, herself. Her father, geneticist and environmental activist David Suzuki, is a third-generation Japanese Canadian. Boehner distribued tobacco checks on House floor
What Rep. John Boehner did is a criminal offense - and he shamefully admited it: Boehner distributed campaign contributions from tobacco industry lobbyists on the House floor as House members were weighing how to vote on tobacco subsidies. In a 1996 documentary by PBS called The People and the Power Game, Boehner said "They asked me to give out a half dozen checks quickly before we got to the end of the month and I complied. And I did it on the House floor, which I regret. I should not have done. It's not a violation of the House rules, but it's a practice that‘s gone on here for a long time ..."
