OCCUPY: A Movement Too Big to Fail
By Chris Hedges - Tinkering with the corporate state will not work. We will either be plunged into neo-feudalism and environmental catastrophe or we will wrest power from corporate hands. This radical message, one that demands a reversal of the corporate coup, is one the power elite, including the liberal class, is desperately trying to thwart. - What kind of nation is it that spends far more to kill enemy combatants and Afghan and Iraqi civilians than it does to help its own citizens who live below the poverty line? What kind of nation is it that permits corporations to hold sick children hostage while their parents frantically bankrupt themselves to save their sons and daughters?

This 'N That

There never was a war that was not inward; I must fight till I have conquered in myself what causes war.
- Marianne Moore

The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.
- David Friedman

I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.
- Helen Keller

To see the earth as it truly is, small and blue in that eternal silence where it floats, is to see riders on the earth together, brothers on that bright loveliness in the eternal cold - brothers who know now they are truly brothers.
- Archibald Mc Leish

It is easier to lead men to combat, stirring up their passion, than to restrain them and direct them toward the patient labors of peace.
- Andre Gide

At all the times you can,
- To all the people you can,

Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess.
- Oscar Wilde

If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.

- John Maynard Keynes

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
- John F. Kennedy

I am done with great things and big things, great institutions and big success, and I am for those tiny invisible molecular moral forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capillary oozing of water, yet which if you give them time, will rend the hardest monuments of man's pride.
- William James

The arms race can kill, though the weapons themselves may never be used...by their cost alone, armaments kill the poor by causing them to starve.
- Vatican statement to the U.N., 1976

The US can do better than corporate capitalism
By economist Richard Wolff - "Let me conclude by offering a slogan: "The US can do better than corporate capitalism." Let that be an idea and a debate that this renewed movement can engage. Doing so would give an immense gift to the US and the world. It would break through the taboo, finally subjecting capitalism to the critiques and debates it has evaded for far too long – and at far too great a cost to all of us."

NYPD arrest 24 trying to close Citibank accounts

In this video about 24 people attempt to make a statement by lining up inside a Citibank in NYC, only to have the manager lock them inside, call the police, and have them arrested. The charge? ... trespassing! And in case you're wondering if these protesters really are customers, watch the well-dressed young woman being hauled off and handcuffed and drag ged back into the bank, as she waves her Citibank checkbook.

B of A Santa Cruz refuses to close accts

in Santa Cruz, California, two young women go to a Bank of America branch to close their accounts, and are threatened with arrest if they do not leave immediately. Even after they put down their protest sign, the manager refuses service and locks them out, insisting that they "cannot be a customer and protester." Which I think kinda misses the point: They don't want to be customers anymore.

Gay sailor beaten to death by shipmates in Japan
Nineteen years ago, on Oct. 22, 1992, gay sailor Allen R. Schindler,a radioman aboard the Navy's amphibious assault ship Belleau Wood, was brutally beaten by two drunken shipmates, because he was gay. Let us not forget how it used to be in the military. New York Times

Student Debt Is Killing the Economy and our Youth
"Student debt has grown by 511 percent since 1999. At that time, only $90 billion in student loans were outstanding—by the second quarter of 2011, that balance was up to $550 billion, according to the New York Fed. And the Department of Education estimates that outstanding loans total closer to $805 billion—and that number will pass $1 trillion soon. As student loans rise, so has delinquency. Phil Izzo at the Wall Street Journal reported that 11.2 percent of student loans were more than 90 days past due and that rate was steadily going up." Corporate greed is killing an entire generation. Founding Fathers passed 1st whistleblower law
What would the Founders have said about Wikileaks, whistle-blowers and Bradley Manning? - In 1778 Congress passed the first whistle blower law to protect two whistle-blowing soldiers from the retaliation from their powerful and well-connected commander. Fascinating parallel to the Manning case today. Obama's efforts to silence WikiLeaks and discredit Julian Assange do not uphold the founders principles.

Are Revolutions Contagious? Is OCCUPY?
The current situation in the Middle East echoes a long history of contagious revolutions around the world. Seeing others revolt is a catalyst that emboldens people to push back against their own oppressive situations. There is no formula to predict where revolutions will start, how far they will spread or when they will end. Social and political scientists are keenly aware of the explosive potential of the Occupy Wall Street phenomenon.

BOSTON Occupy: "We are not leaving!'
