Obama tilts scales of justice against Manning
Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, who is accused of leaking a trove of documents to WikiLeaks, faces serious court-martial charges, including aiding the enemy. Under one of the most fundamental of all rights, he is presumed innocent until legal and competent evidence overcomes that presumption beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. But Pres. Obama unfairly tilted the scales of justice against Manning by declaring publicly at a fund raiser in San Francisco that Bradley Manning is guilty. Read More

Do your work as though you had a thousand years to live, & as if you were to die tomorrow.
- Mother Anna Lee, founder of the Shakers

If I can't dance I don't want to be part of your revolution.
- Emma Goldman

Justice is truth in action.
- Benjamin Disraeli

Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contibute the best that they have and all that they are.
- Hafsat Abiola

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.
- Friedrich Nietzche

Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity.
- Albert Einstein

In every child who is born, no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again: and in him, too, once more, and of each of us, our terrific responsibility toward human life; toward the utmost idea of goodness, of the horror of terror, and of God.
- James Agee

By logic and reason we die hourly. By imagination we live.
- John Butler Yeats

Violence just hurts those who are already hurt...Instead of exposing the brutality of the oppressor, it justifies it.
- Cesar Chavez

I am part and parcel of the whole and cannot find God apart from the rest of humanity.

If we work in marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten and brighten to all eternity.
- Daniel Webster

Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act on it.
- Pablo Casals

Murder and capital punishment are not opposites that cancel one another, but similars that breed their kind. It is the deed that teaches not the name we give it.
- George Bernard Shaw

Dare to be naive.
- Buckminster Fuller

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS!
- Mahatma Gandhi

No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There is too much work to do.
- Dorothy Day

When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it?
- Eleanor Roosevelt

We plant seeds that will flower as results in our lives, so best to remove the weeds of anger, avarice, envy and doubt, that peace and abundance may manifest for all.
- Dorothy Day

We should take care, in inculcating patriotism into our boys and girls, that is a patriotism above the narrow sentiment which usually stops at one's country, and thus inspires jealousy and enmity in dealing with others... Our patriotism should be of the wider, nobler kind which recognises justice and reasonableness in the claims of others and which lead our country into comradeship with...the other nations of the world. The first step to this end is to develop peace and goodwill within our borders, by training our youth of both sexes to its practice as their habit of life, so that the jealousies of town against town, class against class and sect against sect no longer exist; and then to extend this good feeling beyond our frontiers towards our neighbours.
- Lord Baden-Powell

At all the times you can,
- To all the people you can,

The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.
- Dante

Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Killing of bin Laden: What are the consequences?
Article
"What, if anything, is going to change as a result of the two bullets in Osama bin Laden's head? Are we going to fight fewer wars or end the ones we've started? Are we going to see a restoration of some of the civil liberties which have been eroded at the altar of this scary Villain Mastermind? Is the War on Terror over? Are we Safer now? Those are rhetorical questions. None of those things will happen. If anything, I can much more easily envision the reverse." OP-ED by Glenn Greenwald

Osama bin Laden's death-good or bad?

Upon hearing about the killing of Osama bin Laden, I had two immediate reactions: The first was disbelief, and the second was an intense gut feeling of total fear and dread. The intensity was near that of my initial reaction at the news of the 9/11 attack on the radio. This citizen is definitely not celebrating.-An editorial. By Nina Hall of Vista

Bin Laden's sea burial fuels conspiracy theories
Article
LA TIMES - Conspiracy theorists on both the left and right were quick to insist that Bin Laden was either still alive or had been dead for years, pouncing on the government's decision to slide the body of the world's most wanted man off a board into the Arabian Sea. As blogs hummed with allegations that the Obama administration had faked the middle-of-the-night raid, the Bin Laden "death hoax" threatened to replace questions about President Obama's citizenship as the latest Internet rumor to go viral.

The War Is Over. Start Packing!
Article
"We got our man. Wave the flag, kiss a nurse (or a sailor) and start packing the equipment. It's time to plan to bring all our boys and girls home from Afghanistan ... The world was already bone tired of the war in Afghanistan, even before bin Laden's death. Two-thirds of Americans were saying that the war in Afghanistan wasn't worth fighting, and three-quarters of Americans were saying that they wanted to see a substantial withdrawal of US combat troops from Afghanistan this summer." Dems form shadow fundraising group
Article
This story, courtesy of yahoo.com, just proves that the Democrats are now officially just as sneaky and shady as the Republicans have been regarding fundraising, and provides another reason to cast serious doubt on voting for Obama again for those who are already squeamish about it due to prior unfavorable action, inadequate response or inaction on various issues. The story argues that Obama is a hypocrite because he previously denounced shadow fundraising, and for once I have to agree with that assessment. So our choice now is not to vote at all? -Nina Hall, Environmental Editor.

Obama declares Manning is GUILTY without trial

Obama egregiously violates the constitutional right of Bradley Manning, but has the temerity to declare that Bradley Manning "broke the law." So Obama declares Manning guilty, throws him into prison where he is tortured for 10 months without a trial. LISTEN: "We're a nation of laws. We don't individually make our decisions about how the laws operate." Finally, before removing himself from the conversation, he says Manning "dumped" information and "it wasn't the same thing" as what Daniel Ellsberg did because what Ellsberg leaked "wasn't classified in the same way." Obama is ignorant or a tyrant -- or both.

Wallace, insinuating that Gay Marriage is judicial activism, asks where is it in the Constitution that permits gay mariage. "Where is the right to interracial marriage in the Constitution" asked Ted Olsen of Wallace. Brilliant arguments by Olson. When Wallace insists the voters have the right to outlaw gay marriage, Olson asks if it would be constitutional for the voters to force blacks to drink at separate water fountains.
