Plutocracy is rapidly destroying our democracy
By Robert Reich - "It's a perfect storm. And I’m not talking about the impending dangers facing Democrats. I’m talking about the dangers facing our democracy. First, income in America is now more concentrated in fewer hands than it’s been in 80 years. Almost a quarter of total income generated in the United States is going to the top 1 percent of Americans. The top one-tenth of one percent of Americans now earn as much as the bottom 120 million of us." What are they doing with their wealth heist? They are ransacking our democracy - buying our politicians, our scholars, media and our elections. Read More

Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely an absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people.
- Jawaharlal Nehru

The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.

We are going to have to find ways of organizing ourselves cooperatively, sanely, scientifically, harmonically and in regenerative spontaneity with the rest of humanity around the earth.... We are not going to be able to operate our spaceship earth successfully nor for much longer unless we see it as a whole spaceship and our fate as common.

But the local farmers have already planted thousands of seeds, and when they look at the bare hills, they may be able to see the sunflowers already. The sunflowers are there. Reasons not to vote for Bilbray
Brian Bilbray serves up abuse to our citizens time after time, but it is only when the worst of his abuses are stacked up in front of us in one smelly heap that we realize just how abusive he is. Betty Ball of Lake San Marcos, in her brilliant letter to the editor, does just that! Bravo, Betty!

Bilbray emits only vacuous hot air on immigration
"Congressman Brian Bilbray never misses an opportunity to air his illegal immigration rhetoric on local and national news." And its hot, vacuous air - lacking ideas or substance. He is a shallow and emotional man. "Bilbray is simply wrong. An earned pathway to citizenship as proposed by the comprehensive immigration reform bill (HR 4321) is not amnesty." By Tracy Emblem of Escondido.

Why the LOS ANGELES TIMES endorses Jerry Brown -- "To a state desperate for leadership, he brings the seen-it-all-before wisdom of a political veteran Californians must choose. One candidate is a stranger to the political and governmental landscape; the other knows every superhighway, back road and dead-end. We opt for real-world experience, know-how and creativity. TEA Party candidate poses in Nazi uniform
An explosive picture of Ohio GOP congressional candidate Rich Iott, posing in a Nazi uniform surfaced online this weekend. Iott, a Tea Party favorite who is running for a seat in Ohio's ninth district, says he is not a Nazi sympathizer but a history buff who liked participating in historical re-enactments. Historians respond: "The multimillion Jewish population of Eastern Europe was going to be exterminated altogether…It sends a shiver up my spine to think that people want to dress up and play SS on the weekend." Iott is opposed by Democrat Marcy Kaptur.

Politicians' intolerance fuels hate against gays
EDITORIAL - Washington Post -THE NEWS out of New York City this past weekend was horrifying. Obama stiffs Gays in military again
Barack Obama, running for president, vowed to end the ludicrous Pentagon policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," which, since it was established in 1993 by President Clinton has required gay and lesbian members of the uniformed services to hide their sexual orientation or be drummed out of the service. Obama has been unwilling to put an end to the overt discrimination of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". Even when the opportunity was handed to him on a silver platter by federal judge Phillips. Legal tradition trumps constitutional rights.

Angry Schwarzenegger fighting Big Oil on Prop 23
Tom Friedman - "What has Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California incensed is the fact that two Texas oil companies with two refineries each in California are financing a campaign to roll back California' landmark laws to slow global warming and promote clean energy innovation, because it would require the refiners to install new emission-control tools. At a time when President Obama and Congress have failed to pass a clean energy bill, California's laws are the best thing we have going to stimulate clean-tech in America. We don't want them gutted."

No on the Big Oil initiative (Prop 23)
Two out-of-state Texas oil companies have contributed $4.5 million to date to promote Prop 23, which would overturn California's clean air law. Both oil corporations would substantially benefit by "suspension" of AB 32, because according to information released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, they are two of the biggest air polluters in California. SF Chronicle:"A federal judge ordered an immediate halt Tuesday to discharges of openly gay and lesbian soldiers under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, rejecting the Obama administration's request to wait until Congress acts on the issue. U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips of Riverside ruled the 1993 law unconstitutional Sept. 9, saying it intrudes on service members' personal lives and freedom of expression and reduces military effectiveness by needlessly excluding qualified personnel."

Foundation warns FOX advertisers about Glenn Beck
In an extraordinary move to nip the inflammatory commentary coming from Glenn Beck, the founder and CEO of the Tides Foundation (a frequent Beck target) has written advertisers asking them to remove their sponsorship of the Fox News program or risk having "blood on their hands." Drummond Pike, who along with his organization was recently targeted by an assassin inspired by Beck's program, penned a letter on Friday to the Chairmen of the Boards of JP Morgan Chase, GEICO, Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP, and The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

2010: The year of politicking insanely
"When has there been an election with so many looney tunes running under the banner of one of our major parties? It's not that they are ultraconservative, or even that some of them believe their psychic powers let them know what the Founding Fathers would have thought about, say, stem-cell research. It's just that there is a difference between being smart but wrong and being Christine O'Donnell. The "I'm not a witch" woman, Christine O'Donnell, says she would like to serve on the Foreign Relations Committee.By Eugene Robinson of Washington Post.

Legal analysis - What's next for DADT & DOMA?
On Oct. 12, 2010, U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips issued her worldwide injunction against "Don't Ask, Don’t Tell". Further, the Department of Justice announced its intention to appeal the July 8, 2010 rulings of U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro that declared DOMA's federal definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman as a violation of equal protection and due process guarantees. Now come the tedious appeals process. SD legal expert, Ari Ezra Waldman advises "But do not despair. An appeal is not necessarily a bad thing."

Gay Texas councilman makes plea to gay youth

Fort Worth, Texas Councilman Joel Burns has become a hero and role model by his speech promoting hope for gay teens who feel depressed and threatened because of their sexuality. Burns gave a 13 minute emotional speech which went viral on You Tube, in which he described his own struggle to come to grips with his sexual orientation years ago. He implored desperate teens not to lose faith and hope in a future, and wept over the spate of suicides of teens as young as 11 and as late teen as 18 in recent weeks, due to constant bullying on the internet, and rejection by churches and parents who claim to be "religious", but are committing the greatest sin imaginable--the repudiation of children!

BILL MOYERS: Plutocracy destroying our democracy

"Plutocracy and Democracy don't mix", states Bill Moyers. It is the rule of the rich, which is anathema to democracy. It is buying up and enslaving the political and spiritual soul of America. It greatest threat is controlling the minds of the weak and vulnerable segment of the populace though media propaganda. It uses the sacred tools of democracy to destroy democracy from within.

Paladino calls gays 'perverts' and 'pornographers'

Darling of the TEA Party, Carl Paladino, GOP candidate for governor of NY, calls gays perverts and pornographers, yet adds "don't quote me in any way as wanting to hurt homosexuals." Is it inconsistent for Nazis to dehumanize Jews, then profess they are not hurting them? Those who dehumanize and criminalize other people in the name of religion are the perverts and criminals.

Glenn Beck's heart full of hate and evil

The South Fulton, Tennessee fire department stood by and allowed the Cranick house to burn to the ground, destroying everything and killing the family's dogs and cats. All because the Cranicks failed to pay a $75 fee. While a raging brush fire neared his home, Cranick begged the fire chief to stop the fire before it engulfed his house. Glenn Beck not only defended the fire department's refusal to save the Cranick's house, but also accused Cranick of "sponging" off his neighbors -- all the while mocking and ridiculing Cranick's rural accent. After losing everything they owned, including their home, their pets, family photographs -- everything, Gene Cranick and his family were excoriated, scolded and teased by multimillionaire celebrity televangelist Glenn Beck in front of a radio audience estimated at upwards of 10 million listeners.

Ted Olson: Why Prop 8 is a loser's position

Constitutional lawyer, Ted Olson, in his victory over Prop 8 speech, calls this a great victory for individual and civil rights under the U.S. Constitution. A short, but great speech.
