Our most tragic war is against our own people
By Dr. Zoltan Lucas - "Thirty-nine million Americans (13% of our population) live in poverty. From the top of San Diego’s One American Plaza, you can see wealth and power—hotels, banks, condominiums, corporate hubs, even a tower with a penthouse club for the city’s elite. At your feet, however, you’ll see the vanquished—the homeless in cardboard refuges, the newly poor living in cars, the workers whose minimum hourly wage of $8.00" Read More

This 'N That

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.
- Ken Keyes, Jr., quoted in Catholic Digest, June 2000

Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, try the following experiment: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be for any use to him or to her . . . Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
- Mohandas Gandhi

If I can't dance I don't want to be part of your revolution.
- Emma Goldman

If peace . . . only had the music and pageantry of war, there'd be no wars.
- Sophie Kerr

Jaw-jaw is better than war-war.
- Harold MacMillan

Only when there are many people who are pools of peace, silence, understanding, will war disappear.
- Osho (1931-1990)

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction.
- E. F. Schumacher

Everything, everything in war is barbaric . . . But the worst barbarity of war is that it forces men collectively to commit acts against which individually they would revolt with their whole being.
- Ellen Key, 1916

We plant seeds that will flower as results in our lives, so best to remove the weeds of anger, avarice, envy and doubt, that peace and abundance may manifest for all.
- Dorothy Day

Instead of tug o' war, let's play hug o' war.
- Shel Silverstein

Fondly do we hope, ferverently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away.
- Abraham Lincoln

Many oppressors are also oppressed. Nonviolent confrontation is the only confrontation that allows us to respond realistically to such complexity.
- Jane Meyerding

In the struggle rewards are few. In the fact, I know of only two, loving friends and living dreams. These rewards are not so few it seems.
- Anonymous

Dare to be naive.
- Buckminster Fuller

Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being.
- Mahatma Gandhi

Forge thy tongue on an anvil of truth and what flies up, though it be but a spark, will have light.
- Pindar

If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.
- John F. Kennedy

Respectful dialogue, in the interest of searching for more complete truth, is considerably more productive than arguing for the purity of position.
- Gerard Vanderhaar

The world cannot continue to wage war like physical giants and to seek peace like intellectual pygmies
- Basil O'Connor

When someone steals another's clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not? The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry; the coat unused in your closet belongs to the one who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the one who has no shoes; the money which you hoard up belongs to the poor.
- Basil the Great

Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act on it.
- Pablo Casals

If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are, if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.
- Joseph Campbell

While seeking revenge, dig two graves - one for yourself.
- Doug Horton

Hitler and Mussolini were only the primary spokesmen for the attitude of domination and craving for power that are in the heart of almost everyone. Until the source is cleared, there will always be confusion and hate, wars and class antagonisms.
- J. Krishnamurti

I don't do great things. I do small things with great love.
- Mother Teresa

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.
- Friedrich Nietzche

. . . [T]o live not with hands clenched to grasp, to strike, to hold tight to a life that is always slipping away the more tightly we hold it, but . . . to live with the hands stretched out both to give and receive with gladness.
- (Carl) Frederick Buechner

The two kinds of people who exist in this world [at any one time] are the decent and the indecent. Color, religion and nationality are irrelevant. Kindness, decency and behavior are what matters most. Our collective challenge, it seems, is to create a city and community where decent people of all races, ethnicities and religions can look into the faces of other decent people and see only one thing -- God's image smiling back.
- Rabbi Micah Greenstein

Joy is the most infallible sign of the presence of God.
- Leon Bloy

Some things you must always be unable to bear. Some things you must never stop refusing to bear. Injustice and outrage and dishonor and shame. No matter how young you are or how old you have got. Not for kudos and not for cash, your picture in the paper nor money in the bank, neither. Just refuse to bear them.
- William Faulkner

Polls Set Off Funding Sirens for Feingold
News
Pundits claim Democrats suffer a malaise of enthusiasm for the Nov. 2 election -- but not for Sen. Russ Feingold , their liberal hero. An alarming poll sent the liberal army into full assault and raised $600,000 in 48 hours, and an army of campaigners. The right man with the right message is all it takes.

Wishful Obituaries: an Ode to Christine O’Donnell
Article
By Kit-Bacon of Fallbrook - A spoof. "Christine O’Donnell, Delaware's controversial Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, is dead. And the Tea Party mourns. But O'Donnell’s lunacy -- her legacy lives on in the hearts of those nutty Delaware citizens who would have cast their votes for the anti-masturbation, witchcraft-dabbling, sexual-purity touting, resume-embellishing pauper -- had she not dropped dead on the campaign trail Friday."

NY TIMES: 'The Secret Election' bought by corps.
Article
"The battle for Congress is largely being financed by a small corps of wealthy individuals and corporations whose names may never be known to the public. And the full brunt of that spending — most of it going to Republican candidates — has yet to be felt in this campaign." The Chamber of Commerce has become a Republican money-raising PAC.

Now Official: The US is a Police State
Article
"Americans are the most gullible people who ever existed. They tend to support the government instead of the Constitution, and almost every Republican and conservative regards civil liberty as a coddling device that encourages criminals and terrorists. ..The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace-makers for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger." This is precisely what the Bush and Obama regimes have done. By Paul Craig Roberts

Republicans Need To Rethink Rhetoric
News
By Wayne Besen - "Can the media please stop pretending that the Tea Party is an amalgam of small government conservatives and anxious Americans concerned about their families? What we are witnessing is not spontaneous, nor was it a genuine outpouring of anger towards Washington. It was privileged DC Republicans shilling for the insurance industry while posing as populists. To obscure their genuine goals, they mobilized racists and riff raff to throw tyrannical tantrums in an effort to intimidate lawmakers." And it is working.

Wikileaks and Pvt. Manning - unstoppable activism
Article
Pvt Bradley Manning follows closely the profile of the altruistic whistle-blowers and Hactivists: We explore…and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge…and you" call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias…and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals. Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for. I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all."

But he vetoed others, including maternity coverage as a basic benefit, and mental health parity as a basic benefit in insurance coverage.

CNN fires news anchor RICK SANCHEZ !

CNN host Rick Sanchez came under fire Friday after making controversial remarks the previous day on a satellite radio show. Sanchez called out Comedy Central host Jon Stewart as a "bigot" for mocking him, and complained that Jews — like Stewart — don't face discrimination. He also suggested that CNN, and perhaps the media industry more broadly, is run by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself.

A much better choice than Bill HORN
News
By Andy Cohen of Ocean Beach - Independent Steve Gronke could knock longtime County Supervisor Bill Horn off. The 10 year veteran of the Vista City Council has changed course and mounted a thus far successful challenge to 16 year incumbent, Bill Horn, for the 5th District seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. The once dark horse candidate surprised the experts in last June’s primary and forced a runoff for November 2. Steve Gronke is the rarest of political figures in today's hyper-partisan environment. A long time Republican, he switched his party affiliation to "decline to state" for this election, which is fitting because he doesn’t really identify with the current conventional definition of a Republican. He is that uncommon moderate who has a very real chance at winning this election season.

The video that will terminate Meg Whitman

SEIU is poised to plunge the knife into Whitman's back with this video titled "9 años," a Spanish-language ad mentioning the scandal while also reminding its Latino audience that Pete Wilson is playing a major role on Whitman's campaign. We see the hubris that is typical of corporate power. Whitman exploited a worker, believing she had every right to do so. When she couldn't exploit her any more, she brutally cut her off. When this was exposed, she first lied about it, hoping the media would cover for her. Then she started changing her story, again hoping the media would play along.

Constitutional lawyer, Ted Olson, in his victory over Prop 8 speech, calls this a great victory for individual and civil rights under the U.S. Constitution. A short, but great speech.

The Glenn Beck 'Hysteria Show' in DC

Eight minute video of the insanity, irrationality and ignorance seen by one videographer at the Glenn Beck televangelist rally in Washington DC. "Repent! Go back to God! 9-11 was God's warning!" and more insanity that blames terrorism on God and Muslims. "Boycott Hollywood and all the commies!" "Obama is the anti-Christ." "Glenn Beck is such a logical thinker."
