This 'N ThatI am part and parcel of the whole and cannot find God apart from the rest of humanity. - Mohandas GandhiPeace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace. - Martin Luther (1483-1546) In separateness lies the world's great misery; in compassion lies the world's true strength. - Buddha Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them whenever they require it... If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. - St. Francis of Assisi The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins - Oliver Wendell Holmes Thaw with her gentle persuasion is more powerful than Thor with his hammer. The one melts, the other breaks into pieces. - Henry David Thoreau The God of life summons us to life; more, to be lifegivers, especially toward those who lie under the heel of the powers. - Daniel Berrigan And all good things are yours. - Swedish proverb The problems of this world are so gigantic that some are paralysed by their own uncertainty. Courage and wisdom are needed to reach out above this sense of helplessness. Desire for vengeance against deeds of hatred offers no solution. An eye for an eye makes the world blind. If we wish to choose the other path, we will have to search for ways to break the spiral of animosity. To fight evil one must also recognize one's own responsibility. The values for which we stand must be expressed in the way we think of, and how we deal with, our fellow humans. - - From the Christmas Message 2001 of HM Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Your life and my life flow into each other as wave flows into wave, and unless there is peace and joy and freedom for you, there can be no real peace or joy or freedom for me. To see reality--not as we expect it to be but as it is--is to see that unless we live for each other and in and through each other, we do not really live very satisfactorily; that there can really be life only where there really is, in just this sense, love. - (Carl) Frederick Buechner Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own goodness and act on it. - Pablo Casals There is nothing more agreeable in life than to make peace with the establishment and nothing more corrupting. - Unknown If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room. - Anita Koddick Gandhi once declared that it was his wife who unwittingly taught him the effectiveness of nonviolence. Who better than women should know that battles can be won without resort to physical strength? Who better than we should know all the power that resides in noncooperation? - Barbara Deming Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is. - Will Rogers When a true genius appears in this world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. - Jonathan Swift Let all bear in mind that a society is judged not so much by the standards attained by its more affluent and privileged members as by the quality of life which it is able to assure for its weakest members. - H.E. Javier Perez de Cuellar, Secretary General of the United Nations Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. - Martin Luther King, Jr. |
Articles & News: Papal Indulgences for Pedophilia Article By Katha Pollitt - Editor of THE NATION. "The church has yet to learn that lesson. There is a positively Nixonian smarmy truculence in the response of church hierarchs to the ongoing scandal, which now involves Pope Benedict XVI himself. On Palm Sunday, New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan urged worshipers at St. Patrick's Cathedral to show "love and solidarity for our earthly shepherd now suffering some of the same unjust accusations, shouts of the mob and scourging at the pillar, as did Jesus." [This provoked widespread outrage against the Archbishop.] California Nurses Assn. Endorses Tracy Emblem News The California Nurses Association has endorsed

GOP - Going to Extreme on health care Article By Paul Krugman "If you care about America’s future, you can’t be happy as extremists take full control of one of our two great political parties...What has been really striking has been the ... rhetoric of the G.O.P., coming not from some radical fringe but from the party’s leaders. John Boehner, the House minority leader, declared that the passage of health reform was 'Armageddon.'"
Stopping the health-care madness Article "Let's not pretend anymore that the tea party movement is harmless. The right to protest is one of our cherished American freedoms. But there is no right to vandalism, no right to threaten our elected officials' lives. Someone is going to get hurt unless those who lead the movement -- and those who exploit it -- start acting like responsible adults." By Eugene Robinson, WASHINGTON POST OBAMA - Another broken campaign promise Article Was President Obama deluded and misinformed when he gave his Aug 4, 2008 speech, promising to oppose offshore oil drilling, or is he once again deluded in his current belief that he can bribe oil corporations to support a sustainable energy policy by offering them a plum? Read his campaign speech: Feinstein declares support for Sunrise Power Link News SHOCKER: Sen. Dianne Feinstein displays her complete unfamiliarity with the Powerlink Project, stating she know of "no opposition" to the destructive energy project to build gigantic power lines and towers from East County to the coastal region. East County Magazine writer, Miriam Rafferty gives the truthful facts of the proposed project. OBAMA - Another broken campaign promise
OBAMA, June 20, 2008 - "[Offshore oil] wouldn't do a thing to lower gas prices is a new proposal by John McCain -- a proposal also adopted by George Bush as well -- to open up Florida's coastline to offshore drilling. In what's become a bit of a regular occurrence in this campaign, Senator McCain once had a different position on offshore drilling. And it's clear why he did. It would have long term consequences for our coastlines but no short term benefits since it would take at least ten years to get any oil. you wouldn't see any full production out of any oil drilling off the coasts until 2030. It will take a generation to reach full production and even then the effect on gas prices will be minimal at best."
Jerry Brown was way ahead of his time, a visionary Article Jerry Brown: He's nearly as scrappy as he was in 1975, when the Democrat first became governor of the Golden State, succeeding Ronald Reagan. Brown was considered a visionary by some and a pain in the neck by many. "I was 36 years old at the time. I was in a hurry," Brown said. He was ahead of his time on environmental issues, pushing solar power. He also wanted a space satellite for California's emergency communications, earning him the laudable nickname "Governor Moonbeam." The state eventually adopted his idea. Thuggish racism, bigotry permeates TEA baggers Article "... watch almost any interview with Tea Baggers on the healthcare bill. They display a shocking lack of understanding about what they were actually protesting. Many condemn 'socialized' medicine while not realizing that Medicare is a government program. It is also worth noting that those who are reportedly not fringe ideologues are nonetheless eerily comfortable protesting alongside the more fanatical goons." By Wayne Besen A Bit of Tech Humor for Love Advice ... Article A young woman writes a "Dear Abby" letter to Tech Support, asking for a suitable program after she last year upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.
