Young people say, What is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at at time, take one step at a time; we can be responsible only for the one action in the present moment. But we can beg for an increase of love in our hearts that will vitalize and transform all our individual actions, and know that God will take them and multiply them, as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes.
- Dorothy Day, 1963

Every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

- Bernard Haring

The finger pulls the trigger, but the trigger may also be pulling the finger.
- Dr. Leonard Berkowitz

Sometime in your life, hope that you might see one starved man, the look on his face when the bread finally arrives. Hope that you might have baked it or bought or even kneaded it yourself. For that look on his face, for your meeting his eyes across a piece of bread, you might be willing to lose a lot, or suffer a lot, or die a little, even.

- Whine less, breathe more,

At some ideas you stand perplexed, especially at the sight of human sins, uncertain whether to combat it by force or by human love. Always decide, "I will combat it with human love." Bless your persecutors; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Have the same attitude toward all. Put away ambitious thoughts and associate with those who are lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never repay injury with injury. See that your conduct is honorable in the eyes of all. If possible, live peacefully with everyone. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; leave that to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay," says the Lord. But "If your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals upon their heads." Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.

Miep Gies dies at 100
News
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the staff of Progressive Post reports learning of the death of Miep Gies at 100 from the LA Times. Many Jews revere Miep Gies as a heroine, and she will be forever remembered by people of all faiths as one that surpassed religious intolerance and sneered in the face of certain death from Hitler's SS by protecting Anne Frank and her family for 25 months. She is a moving and glowing example of what humanity could aspire to if they simply followed their conscience. -Nina Hall, Editor

In the first three quarters of 2009, the industry spent $344m on lobbying - making the Street one of the major powerhouses in the nation's capital."

The US labor force contracted by another 661,000. Wall Street rallied. Bulls hope that weak jobs data will postpone monetary tightening: a silver lining in every catastrophe. "Realtytrac says defaults and repossessions have been running at over 300,000 a month since February. One million American families lost their homes in the fourth quarter. Moody's Economy.com expects another 2.4m homes to go this year. Taken together, this looks awfully like Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath:" UK London Telegraph

Tracy Emblem: "The health care industry, motivated by overreaching profits, is currently spending millions to poison public opinion on real health care reform. When Christianity goes terribly wrong
Article
Uganda's bill to imprison gays for life is an outrage that should be rejected. THE ANTI-HOMOSEXUALITY Bill of 2009 is an ugly and ignorant piece of legislation being considered in Uganda. If it is approved, the gay people of that nation would be subject to life in prison. This retreat from the death sentence originally proposed should neither be celebrated nor considered a concession by the government in response to pressure from the United States and other nations. The proposal is barbaric. That it is even being considered puts Uganda beyond the pale of civilized nations. Christian clergy in Uganda were instrumental in drawing up and promoting the bill.
