They have long denigrated wisdom over "patriotism", compassion for the poor and disabled (included soldiers), public ownership for the common good, and investment of public money for public heath and education. They have long denigrated the wise, noble and nurturing donkey, symbol of our Party, and sneeringly refer to obstinately principled Democrats as "asses". It is fundamental human nature to denigrate that which is unfamiliar or not understood, or looks amusingly simple and different.
