Local Dems brace for ballot attack on Labor | Wednesday, July 11 2012 6:00 PM to 8:00 PMA Speakers Training July 11 to Spread the Truth About the Special Exemptions Act
The Democratic Party is hosting a workshop next month on the most important initiative for Democrats to defeat on the fall ballot: the Special Exemptions Act, a corporate-sponsored power grab that would muzzle working people and defund Democratic candidates.
The Speakers Training will be on Wednesday, July 11, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laborers Union Hall, located at 4161 Home Ave. in San Diego (92105). RSVP at http://www.cadem.org/page?id=0050.
For the third time in 14 years, right-wingers are trying to prevent labor organizations from exercising First Amendment rights. The current proposal would prohibit union members from making voluntary paycheck deductions for political purposes. It would also bar unions from contributing to candidates and political organizations.
The group pushing the measure -- hypocritically named "Stop Special Interest Money Now" -- is dominated by large corporate special interests and executives, including the former head of the fundraising arm of the San Diego Republican Party.
The intent of this measure is clear: to tilt the playing field overwhelmingly in favor of Republicans. Defeating it must be a Democratic priority. July 11 will be your opportunity to enlist in this battle, so please attend and prepare to get the truth out to our voters!
